Chapter 90
Nathaniel's question made Julian shift uncomfortably. "I...I'm Evelyn's classmate."
The imposing man looked down with piercing eyes. "Would any husband feel comfortable leaving his wife with a lovesick boy?"
Julian's cheeks burned crimson. His fists clenched at the insinuation. "I admire Evelyn, but I would never disrespect her! My feelings are pure!"
Nathaniel swirled the confiscated cocktail with a dangerous smirk. "Bold words, boy. Confessing to my wife right in front of me?"
Julian's ears turned scarlet with mortification.
Seeing her friend's distress, Evelyn stood abruptly. "Nathaniel, I won't drink anymore. Will you please leave now?"
Dark eyes locked onto hers. "Throwing me out?"
"Not throwing," she corrected through gritted teeth. "Politely asking. You're scaring everyone."
A muscle twitched in Nathaniel's jaw. Scaring them? Since when was he some monster?
The music suddenly cut off. A gaggle of starstruck girls rushed forward.
"Oh my god! You're the benefactor who donated the science building!"
"Evelyn! He's even more gorgeous up close!"
"Introduce us! Who is this Adonis?"
Their giggles filled the room as they openly ogled Nathaniel.
His smirk returned as he glanced at Evelyn. "Doesn't seem very scared to me."
She wanted to strangle her traitorous classmates.
One bold girl stepped forward. "Please stay! We should properly thank you for your generosity!"
The others chorused their agreement, batting eyelashes shamelessly.
Nathaniel's gaze never left Evelyn's exasperated face. "Another time. I just came to check on my wife."
His large hand descended on Evelyn's head, ruffling her hair like a misbehaving child. The possessive gesture made her scowl while the other girls sighed enviously.
"Have fun," he murmured. "I'll be across the hall. Come find me when you're done."
Leaning down, his lips brushed her ear as he whispered, "Remember your position, Mrs. Grayson. Wives don't cozy up to other men."
The veiled threat hung between them.
Before Evelyn could retort, Nathaniel addressed the room with polished charm. "Enjoy your party. Everything's on Evelyn tonight."
Her classmates erupted in cheers as the infuriating man made his exit.
