Chapter 32
The man smirked at Evelyn and slid a dice cup toward her. "Wouldn't want you accusing me of cheating. Let's keep it simple - highest roll wins each round. Two out of three wins the game. Fair enough?"
Evelyn gave a firm nod. "Fair."
Sophia's eyes welled up with panic. "Evelyn! This is my mess! I'll drink whatever they want!" She bit her lip, thinking, 'I can't let my aunt gamble with these creeps! If she loses...'
Evelyn squeezed Sophia's trembling hand. "Hush. Trust me."
'Trust her? How?' Sophia desperately wanted to call her uncle, but one of the thugs had already confiscated her phone.
A crowd gathered around them before the game even started, drawn by the spectacle.
Both players held their dice cups. Evelyn's opponent performed an elaborate shake before slamming his down with a cocky grin. "Ladies first?"
Evelyn smiled sweetly. "After you."
"Such manners!" He lifted his cup to reveal four sixes and one five - totaling 29.
The spectators exchanged pitying looks. This young woman clearly didn't stand a chance against seasoned players. Five sixes? Nearly impossible!
Evelyn ignored their skepticism. With practiced ease, she gave her cup a casual shake and flipped it open. Gasps erupted - five perfect sixes stared back.
Her opponent's smile faltered. "Beginner's luck! Next round!"
The second round ended in a tie with both rolling five sixes. The tension thickened as they prepared for the decisive third round.
When the man rolled another perfect set, his confidence returned. "Three perfect rolls in a row? Impossible odds. Looks like we're extending to best of five. I'm already imagining our night together."
"This ends now," Evelyn stated coolly. She shook her cup deliberately for over ten seconds before slamming it down.
The reveal stunned everyone - each die had split cleanly in half, showing six and one. The unprecedented total: 35.
Game over. Evelyn had won.
The three men gaped like fish, leaning in to verify the impossible result. The crowd erupted in astonished murmurs - this young woman had outplayed seasoned gamblers effortlessly.
"We won? We actually won!" Sophia jumped up, stars in her eyes. "Evelyn! You're incredible! My new hero!"
Evelyn covered a delicate yawn. "Let's leave."
From his vantage point on a nearby sofa, Dominic watched with amused admiration. "Your wife never ceases to amaze, Nathaniel!"
Nathaniel lounged regally in his armchair, swirling a glass of red wine. His expression remained unreadable beneath his aristocratic demeanor.
Dominic's comment caught Benjamin's attention. "Wait - that's your wife?" He studied Evelyn with sudden intensity.
The curly-haired woman beside Nathaniel's chair swirled her champagne, casting a disdainful glance toward Evelyn.
Evelyn tossed the room key back at the stunned man and tugged Sophia toward the exit.
"Wait!" Sophia whirled around. "My phone!"
The lead thug, still processing his humiliation, saw an opportunity. "Another game for the phone!"
Evelyn didn't even turn back. "Let it go. Your wealthy uncle will buy you ten new ones."
