Chapter 430
Sebastian feigned embarrassment. "Why me? I'm still untouched. Buying that would be mortifying!"
Both Seraphina and Evelyn stared at him in dead silence.
His attempt at humor fell flat. The two women regarded him with identical expressions of disgust, lips pressed into thin lines.
He dropped the act with a dramatic sigh. "Fine, fine. I'll get the damn test. Can you believe this? Sebastian Monroe, CEO of Newmoon Group, reduced to running errands like some lowly intern. The indignity!"
Seraphina shot him a withering glance before turning the ignition. As she pulled into traffic, her eyes kept darting to the rearview mirror, watching Evelyn's pale reflection.
'She looks terrible after all that vomiting,' Seraphina thought, worry creasing her brow.
Evelyn did feel awful. Between burning the midnight oil on Nathaniel Grayson's architectural project and barely sleeping despite being homebound, exhaustion clung to her like a second skin. Lately, even simple tasks left her drained - she'd begun suspecting chronic fatigue.
"There's a pharmacy!" Sebastian pointed out the window. "Why aren't stopping?"
Seraphina's grip tightened on the wheel. "Forget the test. We're taking her to the hospital."
"Since when does our boss voluntarily enter hospitals?" Sebastian countered.
"It's just bloodwork," Seraphina insisted, meeting Evelyn's gaze in the mirror. "You need proper tests. What if it's ectopic? Early detection saves lives."
Evelyn's mouth twitched. 'Not pregnant, yet she's diagnosing complications?' Still, two missed periods gnawed at her. Stress or consequence of that reckless night with Nathaniel?
Under dual pressure, Evelyn relented.
OB-GYN Department, Mercy General Hospital.
The silver-haired specialist studied the results. "Congratulations. Seven weeks along with excellent fetal development."
Evelyn's hand flew to her abdomen. 'Seven weeks?' The timeline matched perfectly.
While Seraphina remained composed, Sebastian erupted. "Oh my God! I'm going to be—"
"Control yourself, father!" The doctor snapped. "This is a hospital!"
Sebastian sputtered. "I'm the uncle! The father's—"
"Then where is he?" The doctor demanded.
Evelyn's cheeks flushed. "Business trip overseas. He doesn't know yet."
The specialist sighed. "Unacceptable. No matter how busy, a man should accompany his pregnant partner. Mark my words - next appointment, he'd better be here."
Evelyn nodded meekly, already dreading Nathaniel's reaction to the news.
