Chapter 109

Lucas pulled the car to a stop when his phone rang. His expression darkened instantly.

"I'll be there immediately!"

Ending the call, he turned to Evelyn with an apologetic frown. "Miss Whitmore, something urgent has come up. I won't be able to accompany you inside. Head straight to Mr. Kingsley's office—mention my name, and he'll handle your onboarding."

Evelyn gave a quick nod and flashed an 'okay' sign before stepping out of the car.

The tires screeched as Lucas sped away.

She watched the car vanish around the corner, a thoughtful crease forming between her brows. What kind of emergency could that be? Did something happen to Nathaniel?

The Holden Group subsidiary was a thriving entertainment agency. Evelyn strode into the sleek lobby and approached the reception desk.

The receptionist eyed her briefly before calling Mr. Kingsley to confirm.

"Miss Whitmore, right this way." She gestured for Evelyn to follow.

"Mr. Kingsley is currently in a meeting with one of our talents. You'll need to wait outside until they're finished," the receptionist explained before retreating.

Evelyn leaned against the wall, arms crossed.

Nearby, two employees chatted loudly in the pantry while waiting for their coffees.

"Did you hear? The agency just signed Cassandra Whitmore."

"Obviously! She's everywhere right now."

"All because of that scandal, though. After all those PR spins, she's somehow more famous than ever. I don’t get why management would take her on when her reputation’s in the gutter."

"Reputation doesn’t matter if she’s profitable. Controversy sells. These days, any celebrity who brings in cash is worth their weight in gold."

"Speaking of, she’s in with Mr. Kingsley right now. Wonder what they’re discussing."

"Who knows?"

The two grabbed their drinks and left.

Evelyn’s lips pressed into a thin line. So, Cassandra’s in there.

Just yesterday, Victoria and Cassandra had been gloating on social media about Cassandra’s new contract with Holden’s entertainment division. Their excitement had been nauseating.

But something didn’t add up.

The scandal video had clearly shown Cassandra with a wealthy older man—undeniable proof. Yet, miraculously, the narrative had flipped. The woman was suddenly some look-alike influencer who’d undergone surgery to mimic Cassandra.

The sheer scale of the PR campaign to bury the truth was staggering. There was no way Victoria and Cassandra could’ve pulled it off alone.

Victoria must have pulled some strings.

The office door swung open.

Cassandra emerged, perfectly coiffed and beaming—until her eyes landed on Evelyn. Her smile shattered.

"Evelyn Whitmore?" Her voice sharpened. "What the hell are you doing here?"
