Chapter 350

The clock struck midnight when Amelia tiptoed into Benjamin's room with a plate of sandwiches.

The guards stationed outside exchanged uneasy glances but ultimately stepped aside. They knew Samuel always indulged Amelia's whims.

Even if Samuel were present, he wouldn't have stopped her.

Besides, angering Amelia meant risking Samuel's wrath. Who knew what tales she might spin?

Better safe than sorry.

Inside, Benjamin lay facedown on the bed, his muffled sobs filling the dimly lit room.

"Ben? Ben, get up before you choke yourself."

Benjamin jerked upright at Amelia's voice, hastily wiping his swollen eyes. "Amelia? What are you doing here? You should be asleep!"

"Couldn't sleep worrying about you." Amelia grabbed tissues and dabbed his tear-streaked face. "Big boys don't cry like this, you know."

The words only made Benjamin's tears flow harder. "I was framed! That phone wasn't mine! I only took it to clear Evelyn's name!"

Amelia's hand stilled mid-motion. A shadow crossed her face.

'Even Benjamin risks himself for Evelyn? What spell has that witch cast? First Nathaniel investigates for her, now this coward steals evidence!'

"Amelia?" Benjamin frowned at her strange expression. "You don't believe me either?"

She blinked, instantly softening her gaze. "Don't be silly! Of course I believe you. But you know Samuel - he trusts only hard evidence. Without proof, he won't go easy just because you're his brother." She sighed. "Tomorrow, apologize to Nathaniel. Say you weren't thinking straight. It'll calm them both down."

Benjamin recoiled. "Apologize for something I didn't do? Never! I won't take blame for this!"

Amelia's eyes welled up. "I'd never force you... It's just..." Her voice cracked. "My greatest dream is marrying Nathaniel. But after tonight... the Holdens will never accept me now. This might ruin everything!" She clutched his arm. "Please, Ben? For me?"

Tears spilled down her porcelain cheeks. The sight would melt even the coldest heart.
