Chapter 330

Evelyn barely stepped out of the diner when she heard thunderous footsteps behind her.

She spun around. The same furious crowd was charging toward her. Worse, paparazzi had gotten wind of her location—cameras raised, they sprinted in her direction.

Nathaniel and Evelyn exchanged a glance. A taxi was out of the question. Drivers these days were wary of scammers staging accidents for insurance fraud. The last thing they needed was their driver turning on them.

"Run!" Evelyn seized Nathaniel's wrist, dragging him into motion. She wasn't scared, just annoyed. These people were relentless, and she couldn't exactly fight them off.

Then there was Nathaniel's reputation to consider. One scandal could tank Grayson Enterprises' stocks. She refused to let something this petty ruin him.

They ducked into a narrow alley, the mob and reporters hot on their heels. At the last second, Nathaniel yanked Evelyn behind a stack of discarded crates. They held their breath until the chaos faded.

Evelyn exhaled, chest heaving from the sprint.

Nathaniel studied her, brow furrowed. "You shouldn't run right after eating. You'll get cramps."

She blinked up at him. "What, should we have stood there and brawled instead?"

He pinched her flushed cheeks. "I would've handled it. You just had to watch."

Evelyn scowled. "Nathaniel, I don't want you to—"

"Found them!" a voice shrieked.

"They're over here!"

"Don't let them escape!"

Evelyn's stomach dropped. "They spotted us! Go—I'll hold them off!"

Nathaniel's grip tightened. "I'm not leaving you."

Her abdomen twinged—proof he'd been right about running post-meal. "Just go! I'll distract them!"

His expression darkened. Did she really think he'd abandon her?

She shoved at his chest. He didn't budge.

Tires screeched. Lucas's car skidded into the alley, window rolling down. "Sir! Get in!"

Nathaniel hauled Evelyn into the backseat. Lucas floored it before the doors fully shut.

The mob reached the alley mouth just in time to see a sleek Mercedes AMG GT vanishing.

"Isn't that a limited-edition Benz?" someone spat.

"That scammer probably bought it with stolen money! And that pretty boy's just after her cash. Disgusting!"

"Post their photos online! Expose them!"

"Let's dox him too! Justice for the victims!"

The engine roared as Lucas sped away, leaving the outcry behind.
