Chapter 58
Gabrielle was certain this was the peak of the thrilling tension. A twisted sense of satisfaction curled inside her as she sensed Evelyn's impending downfall. This is what she gets for destroying my watch. Wouldn’t it be perfect if I could openly say she deserves it?
With a feigned sigh, Gabrielle stepped closer to Nathaniel, offering hollow comfort. "Nathaniel, don’t be upset. No one could’ve predicted Evelyn would betray you like this—"
Nathaniel barely spared her a glance before his icy gaze locked onto Evelyn. His voice was sharp. "Come here."
Despite the chaos, Evelyn remained eerily composed. She murmured a quiet thanks to Christopher for his help before moving toward Nathaniel, though her steps were unsteady. "Sir—"
Before she reached him, dizziness struck hard. Her knees buckled, but Nathaniel’s arms shot out, catching her effortlessly. He pulled her against his chest, his brows knitting together in irritation. "Is this all you’ve got? Why are you so fragile?"
The nausea was overwhelming, and his mocking tone only made it worse. If she had even an ounce of strength left, she would’ve punched him. Seriously? I don’t expect concern, but basic human decency would be nice.
Gabrielle, Benjamin, and Abigail stood frozen, their expressions slack with shock. Nathaniel wasn’t reacting like a betrayed man—he was holding Evelyn like she was something precious.
After a moment of leaning against him, Evelyn finally mustered the energy to lift her head. "Hey, where’s the thing I asked you to get?"
Confusion rippled through the room. What thing?
Whatever it was, it made Nathaniel’s usual composure crack. The unshakable, composed man actually looked flustered.
In one swift motion, he pulled a sanitary pad from the inner pocket of his tailored suit and handed it to her.
"Thanks." The moment Evelyn had it in her grasp, she pushed away weakly and headed for the restroom.
Nathaniel gave Lucas a silent command, and the assistant immediately followed her.
The atmosphere in the lounge turned painfully awkward. Gabrielle, Benjamin, and Abigail were speechless. The untouchable, formidable Nathaniel Grayson had just… bought a woman sanitary pads?
Margaret, however, understood instantly. There was no betrayal here—just a misunderstanding. She approached Nathaniel with a frown. "Nathaniel, what’s really going on? You knew Evelyn was here?"
Nathaniel nodded. "Yes. She told me she was attending the art exhibition. When she started feeling unwell, she texted me to pick her up."
The revelation sent a ripple of stunned silence through the room. Benjamin and Abigail flushed crimson. What kind of cheating woman texts her fiancé for help beforehand? This makes no sense!
Margaret, recalling Evelyn’s pale face, grew concerned. "Nathaniel, you should take her to the hospital. She looks terrible."
Nathaniel’s jaw tightened. He pinched the bridge of his nose. "She’s fine, Grandma. It’s just… a monthly issue. I’ll take her to the doctor if it gets worse."
It clicked for Margaret then—Evelyn wasn’t sick. She was on her period. The discomfort, the weakness—it was menstrual pain.
