Chapter 380

Theodore was taken aback by Victoria's words, but quickly composed himself with a polite smile. 'So these are Madam's relatives! What a privilege to host them. I must ensure they receive the highest level of hospitality.'

Yet caution prevailed. He couldn't risk admitting strangers without verification. "Please wait here," he said smoothly. "I'll need to notify Madam first."

He excused himself and ascended the grand staircase. Though Nathaniel had explicitly ordered not to disturb Evelyn's rest, these unexpected visitors left no alternative.

The sharp rapping startled Evelyn awake. "Yes?" she murmured drowsily.

"Madam," Theodore announced through the door, "there's a middle-aged couple with a daughter claiming to be your relatives. Should I admit them?"

Evelyn's sleep-fogged mind processed this. 'Middle-aged couple? A daughter my age? My family?'

Recognition struck like lightning. Her eyes flew open, all traces of sleep vanishing.

'The Whitmores found me? How?' She ran fingers through her disheveled hair, considering. 'If they tracked me to Nathaniel's estate, they already know about our marriage. No use hiding now.'

"Show them to the parlor," she instructed calmly. "I'll be down shortly."

Cassandra's impatience had reached boiling point. She seethed, convinced this delay was intentional disrespect. 'Once I reclaim my rightful place as Mrs. Grayson, that insolent butler will be my first dismissal,' she vowed silently.

When the gates finally swung open, two maids emerged with deferential bows. Cassandra's nostrils flared. "How dare you keep us waiting!" she snapped before they could speak. "Do you enjoy risking your positions?"

The maids exchanged bewildered glances. Theodore had emphasized treating these guests with utmost courtesy as Madam's family. Yet this woman behaved like she owned the estate.

'Who does she think she is?' one maid thought indignantly. 'Barking orders like she's already mistress of Silver Moon?'

The other barely suppressed an eye roll. 'As if Mr. Nathaniel would entertain her delusions.'
