Chapter 463

A relieved smile spread across Evelyn's lips as she received the perfect answer. "Good. I'll feel much better knowing that man won't be showing up here regularly."

Oliver found Evelyn's behavior rather peculiar. He couldn't quite decipher what was going through her mind. Shaking his head slightly, he turned to leave once more.

"Wait, Mister Oliver," Evelyn called out. "There's one more thing I need to ask of you."

Oliver exhaled sharply in irritation. "If you have requests, state them all at once!"

Evelyn leaned forward slightly. "I don't want the Graysons to discover I'm working here. Could you ensure my employment records remain confidential? No one should be able to trace my presence in this company."

Oliver studied her face for a long moment before nodding. "Consider it done. That's easily arranged."

"Thank you," Evelyn said with genuine gratitude, her tone unexpectedly formal. "I truly appreciate your help."

Her sudden politeness caught Oliver off guard. The usually sharp-tongued woman seemed completely different in professional mode - none of that characteristic arrogance remained.

"Just focus on your work," he said gruffly. "Don't get distracted. Even though you've joined the company, Nathaniel might still find you unsatisfactory and fire you. Familiarize yourself with everything quickly - he'll be returning soon and may assign tasks without warning."

Evelyn gave a firm nod. "Understood. Thank you for the advice, Mister Oliver. I won't let you down."

Oliver blinked. Advice? He hadn't meant it as advice. Huffing, he strode away without another word.

Alone at last, Evelyn sank into her chair with a quiet sigh. At two months pregnant, prolonged standing already strained her back. Motherhood, she was discovering, came with unexpected challenges.

Today marked a significant victory - infiltrating Grayson Enterprises brought her one step closer to uncovering the truth about that night.

But she had another critical mission today: sneak into Nathaniel's office unnoticed and photograph the framed picture on his desk. She needed that image of her mother.

It frustrated her how her mother's face kept slipping from memory. Though she'd studied the photo carefully yesterday, by nightfall the image had blurred again in her mind. Strange how she could recall every other detail with perfect clarity, yet her mother's features remained elusive.

Keeping a copy would help. She needed to memorize that face thoroughly. If her mother was still alive somewhere, Evelyn couldn't risk walking past her on the street without recognition.

Her musings shattered when a shrill, familiar voice cut through the office. "Evelyn Whitmore! What are you doing in the secretary's chair meant for Nathaniel's assistant?"

Evelyn looked up to see someone she hadn't encountered in months - Gabrielle Winslow.

'Wasn't she supposed to be in prison for hiring that hitman? Her sentence couldn't possibly be over yet... When did she get out?'

Gabrielle's lips curled into a triumphant smirk at Evelyn's evident shock. "What's wrong, darling? Didn't expect to see me? Thought I'd still be behind bars?"
