Chapter 144

Evelyn's calm declaration made Cassandra scoff. She crossed her arms, her lips curling in disbelief. "Oh really? Then tell us who this mystery investor is."

The name rolled off Evelyn's tongue effortlessly. "Seraphina Montgomery, president of Newmoon Group."

"Newmoon Group?" Cassandra's eyes widened, and she exchanged a startled glance with her mother, Victoria.

Gregory leaned forward, intrigued. "You mean the Newmoon Group that's risen to rival the top four conglomerates in just three years?"

Evelyn nodded. "That's the one."

Gregory rubbed his chin thoughtfully. "I've heard their president is quite young."

"Not just young," Evelyn added. "Brilliant, too."

Cassandra let out a derisive laugh. "Evelyn, stop spinning tales. How could someone like you possibly know the president of Newmoon? You're just trying to weasel your way out of this!"

Gregory's expression darkened with suspicion. "Evelyn, explain. How do you know Seraphina Montgomery?"

Evelyn shrugged. "I found her phone on the street and returned it. Apparently, it contained critical documents. She offered me a reward, but I declined. Instead, she gave me her card and told me to call if I ever needed help."

She reached into her pocket, but Victoria snatched the card before she could present it.

The card was undeniably luxurious—thick, with silver-edged lettering that gleamed under the light. Seraphina Montgomery's name and number were printed in elegant font.

Victoria's eyes narrowed skeptically. "This proves nothing. Call her right now, or we'll assume you're lying."

Cassandra smirked. "Yeah, for all we know, that number could be fake."

Gregory nodded in agreement. "Evelyn, make the call. Let's hear it for ourselves."

With a resigned sigh, Evelyn dialed the number on speakerphone.

"Hello, Miss Montgomery? This is Evelyn Whitmore."

The line connected. Gregory and Victoria leaned in, their gazes sharp as Evelyn inquired about potential movie investments.

Cassandra rolled her eyes, arms crossed. She was certain this was all an act—no way her stepsister could actually be speaking to a corporate titan.

Then, Evelyn held out the phone. "Cassandra, Miss Montgomery wants to speak with you. She has questions about the project."

Cassandra froze. But with a scoff, she took the phone, ready to expose the charade.

"Hello?"
