Chapter 301
The officer swallowed hard under the weight of Nathaniel's icy stare. His fingers twitched nervously as he scrambled for an explanation—why Evelyn Whitmore was cuffed to the hospital bed. He had heard enough earlier to know she was Nathaniel Grayson's wife.
Nathaniel didn't speak. He simply walked past the officer, picked up the discarded cup from the bedside table, and set it back down. The straw was crushed, teeth marks pressed deep into the plastic.
Then he turned to Evelyn. His gaze was unreadable, dark and heavy with something she couldn't decipher.
Evelyn's usual indifference faltered under his silence. She clenched her jaw, meeting his eyes briefly before looking away. "I didn't do it," she muttered.
"Okay." His voice was calm, devoid of doubt.
Her head snapped up. Okay? That was it? No questions, no accusations—just okay?
But Nathaniel didn't elaborate. He never did.
Frustrated, Evelyn turned to the officer. "I want to see my lawyer. Now."
The officer nodded stiffly. "You're entitled to that."
"Then hand me the phone."
Nathaniel reached for the device before she could, placing it in her lap. Without another word, he turned and walked out.
Amelia Rivers, still held back by her brother Samuel, strained against his grip. "Nathaniel—!"
Samuel shot Evelyn one last sharp look before dragging his sister away.
The officers, satisfied their suspect was secured, followed.
The room emptied quickly. Only Benjamin Rivers remained, his handsome face twisted with fury.
Evelyn arched a brow. "What? Going to hit me now?"
"I can't believe you," Benjamin spat. "After everything—this?"
She smirked. "Guess you'll just have to live with the disappointment."
His fists clenched. "You—"
"Don't waste your breath, Benjamin." Gabrielle Winslow stepped forward, her lips curled in triumph as she glared at Evelyn. "The police will handle her."
With that, she pulled Benjamin away, leaving Evelyn alone.
The moment the door clicked shut, Evelyn snatched up the phone and dialed Sebastian Monroe's encrypted line. "Get Julian Montgomery from legal to the hospital. Now."
Sebastian's voice sharpened. "Boss? What happened?"
"Nothing major. Just send him. Alone."
"Understood."
The call ended. Evelyn exhaled, staring at the ceiling.
This wasn't over. Not even close.
