Chapter 275
Evelyn's throat felt much better after drinking several glasses of water. She leaned back against the hospital bed and studied Sophia.
"Why are you here?" she asked.
Sophia set down her phone before answering. "Uncle Nathaniel called and asked me to hurry over after buying you some fresh, comfortable undergarments. I came as soon as I got everything."
Undergarments? Evelyn glanced down at herself, heat creeping up her neck.
She remembered being locked in the bathroom by Nathaniel, drenched and shivering before passing out.
Though she now wore a hospital gown, the clothes beneath were dry—and clearly changed.
"Who... changed me?" she asked warily.
Sophia grinned. "Me! I took off your wet clothes too."
Relief washed over Evelyn. "Oh. Good."
Sophia tilted her head. "Though Nathaniel did help a little. I couldn't hold you up and dress you at the same time."
Evelyn's face burned. "Did he... see everything?"
Sophia waved a hand. "No, no! He wanted to, but I made him turn away. You two might be married, but mystery keeps things exciting!"
Evelyn exhaled sharply. Sophia and her ridiculous ideas...
Sophia's expression turned serious as she took Evelyn's hands—still swollen and red. "Your allergy's worse than usual. What triggered it?"
Evelyn frowned. "No idea. Must've brushed against something by accident."
Silver was her only severe allergen. A tiny earring had once made her palms swell. This reaction meant heavy exposure, yet she couldn't recall touching anything silver—not in the taxi, not at home.
"Be more careful!" Sophia scolded. "Do you know how terrified we were finding you unconscious?"
"I will." Evelyn scanned the room, frowning.
Sophia smirked. "Looking for Uncle Nathaniel?"
Evelyn didn't deny it. "Where is he?"
Truthfully, she wasn't eager to see him. She just wondered if he'd dumped her here to avoid responsibility.
Sophia hesitated. "Well... Amelia had a car accident and was brought to this hospital. Benjamin called Nathaniel to see her."
Evelyn's eyes narrowed. "I see."
Sophia bit her lip. "Are you hungry? I can get you something."
Evelyn shook her head. "Not yet."
Sophia fidgeted. "Don't be upset. He'll be back soon."
Evelyn forced a smile. "I'm not angry."
Illness made emotions raw, but anger wasn't what she felt. She just wanted to go home—her home, with Seraphina and Sebastian—to curl up with little Mia and lose herself in music.
The door swung open.
Nathaniel strode in, tall and composed. Behind him stood Amelia, still in her hospital gown.
