Chapter 79

Abigail didn't dare reveal her real purpose for coming to the police station. She feared Nathaniel and Margaret would interfere.

She walked past them with determined steps, heading straight for the front desk.

"Officer, I'd like to inquire about a man and woman detained for illegal activities at the Grayson International Hotel?"

The officer studied her before answering, "Yes, we have such detainees. May I ask why?"

Abigail leaned forward. "Could I see the woman? I believe I know her!"

This didn't add up. Evelyn should be the one in custody, yet she'd returned home unharmed. Abigail needed visual confirmation.

The officer shook his head. "The female suspect escaped during arrest. My colleagues are still searching."

'Of course she ran!' Abigail thought triumphantly.

Her eyes gleamed with vindication. "I have crucial information! I know where she is!"

The officer frowned. "This isn't a joking matter, miss."

Without hesitation, Abigail turned and grabbed Evelyn, who stood quietly beside Margaret.

"Officer, here's your fugitive! Compare her to your suspect's description!"

Margaret gasped. "Abigail! Have you lost your mind?"

Abigail remained adamant. "Grandmother, you'll see the truth soon enough!"

The officer scrutinized Evelyn carefully. "I wasn't present during the arrest, but she matches the description - same clothing, height, and build."

Smug satisfaction spread across Abigail's face. "No doubt remains. Arrest her immediately! She fabricated that robbery story to cover her tracks!"

Nathaniel stormed over, his voice dangerously low. "Haven't you caused enough chaos today?"

Abigail stood her ground. "I'm exposing Evelyn's true nature! Stop letting her deceive you!"

Nathaniel's expression darkened. "Lucas, take my sister home now."

"Yes, sir!" Lucas moved toward Abigail.

She dodged behind the officer. "I'm not leaving until Evelyn's arrested!"

Nathaniel gave Lucas a meaningful look before wrapping a protective arm around Evelyn's shoulders.

The officer blocked their path. "Sir, she can't leave yet."

Nathaniel's eyes turned glacial. "Explain."

"We must verify this new information," the officer said, his suspicion growing. "Miss Whitmore needs to stay for questioning."

Abigail crowed in triumph. "See? Even the police find her suspicious!"

Nathaniel studied Evelyn's calm face, his gaze unreadable.
