Chapter 328
Evelyn's brow furrowed as she scanned the crowd encircling her. Despite the confusion, her pulse remained steady. "Delete those photos immediately. You have no right to photograph me without consent."
Snickers and jeers erupted from the mob.
"Rights? You're lecturing us about rights?"
"Look at her sipping soda like she didn't just ruin someone's life!"
"Pure evil. Doesn't know the meaning of remorse."
"Not even human, if you ask me."
Evelyn's fingers twitched toward her empty pocket. No phone. Nathaniel still had it.
She squared her shoulders. "You've mistaken me for someone. I'm no celebrity or influencer. Explain yourselves."
A woman shoved forward. "Oh, we know exactly who you are! That pretty face scamming innocent people!"
"Scamming?" Evelyn's voice sharpened. "When?"
"Oscar-worthy performance right there!"
"Should audition for Hollywood with those acting skills!"
Evelyn's patience thinned. "I don't know any of you. Someone explain. Now."
A man thrust his phone in her face. The screen showed grainy footage of Evelyn assisting a blind elder near Silver Peaks Bridge weeks prior.
The edited clip twisted the scene - making it appear the old man deliberately damaged a car while Evelyn demanded compensation. Only her face remained uncensored, every detail crystal clear.
Recognition struck. That night. The purple-haired streamer. Nathaniel's confiscated phone.
'Did Samuel Rivers release this?' Her nails bit into her palms. 'After everything I did for his grandfather? The Rivers family truly are vipers.'
A soda cup exploded against her blouse. Iced liquid seeped through fabric.
"That's for Scarlett!" the thrower yelled. "She's quitting streaming because of you!"
"Scarlett inspired millions!" another screamed. "You destroyed her career!"
