Chapter 258

The night sky stretched endlessly, its dark canvas interrupted only by the luminous full moon hanging indifferently above. The celestial body seemed completely detached from the lively human dramas unfolding beneath it.

Evelyn pulled out her phone and snapped a picture of the glowing orb. Without thinking, she uploaded it to social media with the caption: [Tonight's moon is breathtaking.]

Within moments, a notification popped up. A user named Amelia had liked the post and commented: [Absolutely stunning.]

Evelyn frowned. She didn't recognize that name in her contacts. Curiosity piqued, she tapped on the profile.

A cheerful young woman smiled back at her from the profile picture. Scrolling through the feed confirmed her suspicion - this was Amelia Rivers' personal account.

Her stomach dropped. She'd been using Nathaniel's phone this whole time. The post had gone to his account, not hers.

"Damn it," she muttered under her breath. Then she shrugged. "Whatever. It's just a moon photo. Not like I posted anything compromising."

Closing the app, she dialed a familiar number. Sebastian answered on the first ring.

"Yonder River. Now," she ordered curtly.

"On my way, boss."

Tossing her empty soda can into a nearby bin, Evelyn crossed the street to wait for her ride. That's when she noticed the elderly blind man struggling near the curb.

The man tapped his white cane nervously, finding obstacles in every direction. His wrinkled face twisted in frustration as he reached out, trying to identify what blocked his path.

Evelyn's eyes narrowed. Some idiot had parked their SUV right across the tactile paving.

"Unbelievable," she muttered, approaching the stranded man. "Sir, there's a car parked illegally on the walkway. The driver's not here, but I can help you get around it."

What happened next shocked her.

The elderly man's face darkened with rage. Without warning, he swung his cane with surprising force, shattering the SUV's passenger window.

Glass rained onto the pavement.

Evelyn's eyebrows shot up. "Well... that's one way to handle it."

The man huffed, knocking his cane against the ground. "Disrespectful brats! Maybe this will teach them not to park where people walk!"

While vandalism wasn't exactly legal, Evelyn couldn't entirely disagree with the sentiment. She sighed. "Sir, let's not get arrested tonight. Maybe they just made a mistake."

She gently guided the still-fuming man around the damaged vehicle, making a mental note to be more careful where she parked in the future.
