Chapter 481

Samuel narrowed his eyes with a cold smirk. "You're accompanying me to an event tomorrow. Make sure you're dressed appropriately."

Evelyn blinked in confusion. What event?

Then it hit her—back in the hospital room, Samuel had used her as his supposed partner to deter Amelia and Gabrielle. This must be the birthday party for Amelia's aunt that she'd mentioned earlier.

She'd only been playing along as his employee then. She never actually expected him to follow through!

Evelyn hesitated. High-society parties weren't her scene. But then she considered—Samuel's aunt was a senior Rivera family member. She might know details about past family affairs. Perhaps even information about her mother.

After a moment's thought, she turned to him. "Mr. Rivers, will Nathaniel be attending tomorrow?"

Samuel studied her with sudden interest. After a deliberate pause, he answered, "No. The Graysons never attend Rivera functions."

Of course. The longstanding feud between the families meant they avoided each other's events.

Plus, Nathaniel had mentioned catching a flight at the hospital. He was likely away on business.

Satisfied with the answer, Evelyn gave a professional smile. "Understood. I'll prepare suitable attire for tomorrow's event."

Samuel closed his eyes without responding.

Rivera Group's official hours ended at 5 PM, but Evelyn didn't leave until six.

Exiting the corporate building, she walked several blocks before casually turning into a quiet alleyway.

A black MPV waited there. Evelyn approached it directly, opened the door, and slid inside.

Seraphina was typing rapidly on her laptop in the backseat. At Evelyn's arrival, her stern expression softened into warmth. "Finally finished work, boss?"

Exhausted, Evelyn leaned back, resting her head against Seraphina's shoulder.

Sebastian glanced at his watch from the front passenger seat before turning around. "Six o'clock? That's brutal. Rivera Group works you like a dog."

Evelyn sighed against Seraphina's shoulder. "Regular staff leave at five. But Samuel stayed late, and as his secretary..."

Seraphina massaged Evelyn's shoulder sympathetically. "I hate seeing you exhaust yourself like this. You insisted on infiltrating Rivera Group, but—"

"It's temporary," Evelyn interrupted with a yawn. "If I couldn't handle this much, I wouldn't have survived my childhood."

Seraphina frowned. "You're pregnant now. You shouldn't push yourself so hard."

Evelyn absently touched her stomach. "My baby's tough like me. Oh—Seraphina, I'll need to borrow a formal dress tomorrow."
