Chapter 223

The leaf cup Evelyn had made withered too soon. The maids had thrown it away during their routine cleaning of Nathaniel's room.

Nathaniel was genuinely surprised Evelyn could craft something so delicate.

"Someone's coming, Nathaniel!" Evelyn's voice snapped him back to reality. At the cave entrance, a beam of light flickered as helicopter blades chopped through the air.

Nathaniel grabbed Evelyn's hand and rushed toward the opening. A chopper hovered low over the gorge, its searchlight sweeping the terrain. Rescue had arrived!

Evelyn waved her phone's flashlight frantically toward the aircraft. The pilot spotted the signal immediately and maneuvered for landing.

The cabin door burst open. Dominic Prescott and Harrison Ford leaped out before the skids touched ground.

"Nathaniel! Evelyn! Are you hurt?" Dominic shone his flashlight over them in quick assessment.

Evelyn shook her head. "We're fine."

Nathaniel's glare could freeze lava. "Finished your five-course meal before coming, Prescott?"

Harrison stepped forward. "Traffic jammed the mountain road. Our choppers were too large for the gorge. Dominic had to source this smaller one."

Dominic spread his hands. "Took me hours to find someone willing to lend this piece of junk. Not exactly standard equipment for billionaires."

Nathaniel pinched the bridge of his nose. "Save the excuses for later."

He guided Evelyn toward the helicopter when a pitiful whimper echoed from the cave. Evelyn froze, turning pleading eyes toward Nathaniel.

"Understood." Nathaniel didn't need her to finish. "There's one more inside. Bring it."

Dominic blinked. "One more? Who—"

Minutes later, rescuers emerged carrying an injured bear cub.

Dominic's eyebrows shot up. "Since when does the Ice King of Wall Street rescue wildlife?"

Nathaniel remained impassive. "She wants it. We'll keep it a few days before release."

Dominic whistled. "Damn, Grayson. Who knew you had this side? Husband material right here."

"Go to hell." Nathaniel boarded without another glance.

At the cliffside, Sophia Bennett nearly tackled Evelyn the moment they landed. "Evelyn! Thank God you're alive!" she sobbed into Evelyn's shoulder. "I thought I'd lost you!"
