Chapter 434
Nathaniel turned, but Evelyn and her companions had already vanished from the hospital corridor.
Was that her voice? I could’ve sworn I heard that little troublemaker just now.
Amelia returned with the medication. "Nathaniel, I have the baby’s medicine. We can leave now."
Nathaniel nodded. The toddler, already asleep against his shoulder, didn’t stir as the three of them headed toward the elevator.
Amelia glowed with pride, basking in the admiring glances from passersby. She tilted her head, studying the striking man holding her child.
This is it. My dream life—Nathaniel, me, and our baby. Together forever.
Evelyn, Seraphina, and Sebastian were back in the minivan.
Seraphina glanced at Evelyn through the rearview mirror. "Boss, where to?" she asked carefully.
"Take me back to the Grayson estate," Evelyn replied, her voice calm.
Sebastian frowned. "Why go back after what Nathaniel did to you?"
Evelyn’s gaze lingered on the passing scenery outside. "Our agreement was for three months. Today’s the last day. I’ll stay until midnight to fulfill my end."
Sebastian admired her integrity but sighed. "Boss… are you okay?"
Both he and Seraphina had seen the way Evelyn softened when she discovered her pregnancy. They knew she’d fallen for Nathaniel.
Evelyn smiled faintly. "Plenty of fish in the sea. This will pass."
"And the baby?"
"What happens, happens. Nathaniel has good genes. Consider it a free sperm donation." She leaned back, closing her eyes. "Wake me when we arrive."
Seraphina and Sebastian exchanged a helpless look but stayed silent.
Evelyn rested against the seat, but sleep wouldn’t come. She wouldn’t admit it aloud, but the ache in her chest was undeniable. Nathaniel had been kind, gentle—everything she never expected from a man. For once, she’d let herself believe she could rely on someone.
And now?
Just another lesson learned.
This pain is nothing compared to what I’ve survived before. It’ll fade.
Theodore greeted her the moment she stepped inside.
"Ma’am, have you eaten?"
Evelyn slipped into her indoor shoes. "Not yet. Could you ask the kitchen for something light?"
"Of course. I’ll have it sent to your room."
She nodded, already walking away. The house felt emptier than before.
But she wouldn’t let it break her.
Not again.
