Chapter 310
Daniel Carter hesitated before revealing his manipulator. With a deep bow, he faced Evelyn Whitmore with guilt-ridden eyes.
"I'm truly sorry, Miss Evelyn. I was forced into this situation. They made me frame you against my will." His voice cracked. "You almost went to prison because of me, and you didn't deserve any of it."
Evelyn's expression remained impassive. She gave a slight shake of her head. "Just tell the truth. That's all I need."
"You have my word, Miss Evelyn!"
Daniel then turned to the police officers and began his confession.
"It started when I was handing out flyers by Yonder River. Exhausted, I sat on a bench to rest. That's when I noticed this girl sitting beside me, lost in thought."
His hands trembled as he continued. "That day, I was promoting a barbecue restaurant to Miss Evelyn. Unlike most people who ignore flyer distributors, she actually listened. She even complimented the location and scanned the QR code to become a member."
A bitter smile crossed his face. "That single act helped me complete my quota. I'd never met Miss Evelyn before that day. She was just a kind stranger."
Gabrielle Winslow's face twisted in rage. She jabbed a finger at Evelyn. "This is your doing! You paid this criminal to frame me and clear your name! You're despicable!"
Evelyn arched one perfect eyebrow, her gaze dripping with disdain. "All I did was have my lawyer locate the mother and son. The truth came out on its own." Her lips curled. "Though I must say, Miss Gabrielle, you do seem to make a habit of these situations."
"You lying witch!" Gabrielle shrieked, her composure shattering. She whirled toward Samuel Rivers. "Don't believe her, Samuel! She orchestrated this entire thing!"
Samuel's gaze flickered between the two women, his expression unreadable.
The officers stepped forward, handcuffs glinting. "Miss Winslow, you'll need to come with us."
Gabrielle stumbled backward in panic. "Amelia! Help me!"
Amelia Rivers moved toward Evelyn, reaching out tentatively. Evelyn sidestepped the contact smoothly.
Amelia's hand dropped to her side, her voice pleading. "Evelyn, please... I didn't know the truth. Gabrielle made a terrible mistake, but she did it for me. Can't you find it in your heart to forgive her?"
