Chapter 405
The gossipers were mostly female companions brought by the male guests.
Among them were struggling actresses, D-list socialites, and daughters of minor business families.
Jonathan's expression darkened at their cruel whispers. He shot them a warning glare before turning to Evelyn. "It's crowded here. Let's go upstairs. I'll get you a towel for your hair."
"Thanks."
Evelyn accepted immediately, eager to escape the judgmental stares. Soon, they were ascending the grand staircase together.
As they walked, Jonathan studied Evelyn's profile thoughtfully. "Where's Nathaniel? Why did you arrive alone?"
Her face remained impassive. "Outside. Probably still fussing over his precious Amelia."
The subtle edge in her voice made Jonathan smirk. "Trouble in paradise because of her?"
Evelyn's tone turned icy. "Not at all. I completely understand his concern for his savior. No awkwardness here."
Jonathan raised an eyebrow, unconvinced. "Nathaniel's always been... attentive to Amelia. Before you came along, most of us assumed they'd marry eventually."
Evelyn's fingers twitched. 'Marry? So even his friends thought they were together?'
"Knowing Nathaniel," Jonathan continued, "he'd feel obligated to repay a life debt. The way he's pampered Amelia these years? Even I found it excessive. Though..." He gave Evelyn a knowing look. "I'd understand if his wife found it hard to swallow."
Evelyn stayed silent. Jealous? No. Furious? Absolutely.
Nathaniel's accusatory tone still burned. After everything, he'd actually believed Lucas's ridiculous claims. She'd thought he knew her better than that.
Amelia's two-faced act disgusted her, but Evelyn would never resort to such petty schemes. The woman wasn't worth her time or energy - yet Amelia kept forcing herself into Evelyn's life like an annoying gnat.
Jonathan led her to an empty guest suite and produced a fresh towel. "Dry off here. This is Dominic's largest guest room. The place stays vacant but gets cleaned weekly. Everything's sterilized - no hygiene concerns."
He explained each detail meticulously, watching her reaction closely.
