Chapter 0067

“I believe their fear isn’t directed at her personally. They fear what she might become.”

“Especially Dominic and Victoria?”

“They’re the only leaders left standing. What do you think?”

“What would Dominic want Athena to remember?”

He stood up, moving close until only the bars separated us. “What are you implying?”

“What does Athena need to be reminded of?”

He raised an eyebrow. “I don’t understand your question, Alpha Alexander. Is she in danger again? You must release me. I need to help her.”

“She is my mate.”

“I’m aware. But she’s surrounded by Wolves. She needs someone of her own kind. Someone who understands what it means to be like us.”

“We’ve discussed this. It’s her decision.”

“She doesn’t know you’re here, does she, Alpha Alexander? All these late-night visits while she remains unaware as you try to unravel her past.”

“Late-night visits? I’ve only been down here a few times since your arrival.”

“Your friend Sebastian visits often. I think he’s having relationship troubles.”

“Why would Sebastian discuss his mate with you?”

“Sometimes an outside perspective helps.” He shrugged.

“Do you talk about Athena?”

“No.”

“What do you discuss?”

“Like I said, his problems. In return for listening, he brings me things.” He gestured toward the cell, now stocked with soda, clothes, and books. I needed to speak with Sebastian. He never mentioned any of this.

Caleb gripped the bars. “I swear to you, Alpha Alexander, I mean her no harm. You have the authority to release me. You don’t need to wait for my sister’s approval.”

I still don’t trust him. Titan growled.

“Why would Dominic and Victoria go into the city?” I ignored both Titan and Caleb’s pleas.

“I’m not following.”

“They’ve always kept to themselves. Hidden from other packs. None of us knew your kind existed. Now they’re venturing into neutral territory. Why would they do that?”

“Probably for the same reason anyone goes there. They’re searching for something. Or someone. Athena encountered them, didn’t she?”

“Sebastian got her out.”

Caleb grinned. “The hero. I knew he was a good man.”

“He’s not interested in men,” I repeated.

“Anyone can be swayed, Alpha Alexander. They just need the right… incentive.” He winked.

“Anyway, for Dominic and that woman to enter the city, there must be a significant reason. Some kind of plan.”

“Could they find her?”

“Not Victoria, but possibly Dominic.”

“Because of their blood connection?”

He nodded. “But they would’ve needed to be nearby already to sense her presence. Same as how I found Silver Creek. I told you I could feel it. The sensation grew stronger as I approached. That’s how I knew I was heading the right way.”

He paced his cell, muttering to himself. Suddenly he stopped, his blue eyes locking onto mine. “Who knew she was going?”

“My sister, her tutor, and a few other females. Obviously, Sebastian and myself.”

“All Wolves, correct? You don’t have any other Lycans hidden here?”

“Besides Athena. Is it possible she could’ve accidentally alerted him? Opened a link between them?”

“Unlikely. The only other explanation is they were already there for another reason and Athena walked right into them. They won’t come here. You have the numbers.”

I studied him, recalling his explanation about Lycan origins. He called it a story, but what if it was true?

“Caleb, can they create more?”
