Chapter 0248

As if I would ever help them.

My loyalty belonged to my Alpha.

That vow would remain unbroken until my last breath.

“Let me speak to her.” He muttered lowly. “Take your wine. Go shower. She can listen to me fucking you all night.” His glare was pure venom.

Seriously?

It had been ages since I’d been intimate.

Now they wanted me to endure their twisted performance.

Total assholes!

Blair strutted away, snatching a bottle of wine from the shelf.

“She’s unhinged.” I whispered under my breath.

“What do you expect when you’re acting like a bitch!”

“You’re not the one held hostage here.”

His hand closed around the knife handle protruding from my left leg.

He yanked it out violently.

Blood sprayed across both of us.

The wound sealed quickly.

He repeated the process with the knife in my right leg.

“That’s going to piss her off.” I muttered.

“Enough!” He growled.

“Why? Why her?”

“Does it matter?” He shrugged.

“I think I deserve to know if you plan to kill me.”

He dragged a chair over and sat directly in front of me.

“No, you don’t.” He said flatly.

“What happened to you?” I kept my voice low.

Blair was probably listening.

I needed to choose my words with care.

“Did you choose her because of Athena? I’m sorry your life didn’t turn out as you hoped. I’m sorry a Rogue killed your mate.”

“Your kind is the reason she died.”

“And now you’re fucking one of us. An ex-Rogue, to be exact. That doesn’t bother you? Quite a twist, don’t you think?”

“Sometimes you can’t control who you fall for.”

“Because she looks like Athena.” He could deny it all he wanted. I’d never believe him. “She will destroy you, Julian.”

He rolled his dark eyes.

“Let me guess.” I looked him over. The sharp haircut. The expensive clothes. “She made you promises.”

“I know what she wants.”

“Do you, Julian? From what I see, she’s playing a game. A game like all the other Rogues. Only hers doesn’t end in a feast of flesh.” I had to make him see reason. “Or maybe it will.”

“She won’t kill me. She loves me.”

He called that love? She treated him like garbage. “Julian, I’ve seen a Rogue kill its own pup. You think claiming her will stop her from turning on you?”

He smirked. “Why are you really here, Brianna? To play games? What was it you said? ‘Takes one to know one.’” He stood and moved to the window. He peeked around the curtain, scanning the street. “Is he coming?”

“Scared?” I snorted.

He stormed toward me. His hand wrapped around my throat. “Is he fucking coming?!”

I shrugged. It only made him squeeze tighter.

I could see how far she’d dragged him down. He was beyond helping me.

“How would I know?!” I croaked out.

He sent my chair flying backward. Someone had developed a short temper.

I used those seconds on my back, hidden from his view, to link Athena.

We’d practiced all morning after I relayed last night’s intel.

My ability to hold a link with her was weak. Neither of us knew why.

I had to try. I was in over my head.

‘379 Oak street.’

That was all I managed before my chair was jerked upright.

I prayed she heard it.

His face was inches from mine. “Why haven’t you shifted?”

“I could ask you the same thing.”

“I know you can.” He continued. “I’ve seen it myself.”

“Do I need to? From what I recall, you freaked the fuck out when you saw me. Have you seen Blair’s Lycan?” They’d been together forever. He must have.

But he glanced away.

“You haven’t?” I was confused. She wasn’t living like a Rogue anymore. I knew she struggled with the darkness like Zachary and Athena. But to not shift at all? Something was wrong.

“Shut up!” He growled.

The perfect makeup. The flawless hair. Expensive clothes and shoes that would be ruined by shifting. She killed Gabriel with a gun, not her bare hands.

“She can’t, can she?”
