Chapter 0145

He rolled his eyes at me.

“I’m guessing since you’re here, the Rogues are all dead.”

His dark gaze remained fixed on me.

“It’s alright,” I told the guard. “He’s with Brianna.”

“So the female Alpha hasn’t killed her yet?” Zachary asked, curiosity in his tone.

“Not yet. But there’s still a decent chance.”

Zachary sighed. “Did she apologize like I told her to?”

“From what I heard, she said an apology would be worthless.”

“Brianna!” he muttered under his breath.

He came to a sudden halt, nostrils flaring. His eyes scanned the area. I thought he was searching for Brianna and was about to tell him where she was when I realized he was staring at my sister.

Isabella was carrying something in her arms and dropped it the moment she noticed his attention. She spun around quickly and marched away at a brisk pace.

“Wolf, right?” Zachary murmured.

“Yes, that’s Isabella, my sister. She’s not your biggest fan.”

“Who is?” He shrugged.

“There are only four Lycans here. My mate, Sophia. Brianna. And now you. Isabella is close with my mate. She likes Sophia well enough, but every other Lycan she’s met has been a complete pain. Everyone else here is Wolf.”

“Right.” His dark eyes continued scanning the area as we walked toward the house where I’d placed Brianna.

Before Zachary could knock, Brianna threw the door open and launched herself at him. “I’m so glad you’re alive! But you shouldn’t have come. Now that you’re here, we can leave.”

“I haven’t met the female Alpha yet,” Zachary muttered, setting her back on her feet. He looked at me, waiting.

“She’s resting right now.”

“I see. Maybe a tour, then?” he asked hopefully. I saw Brianna frown.

“Are you up to something? Because I don’t have the time or the patience for games right now,” I warned.

Zachary smiled. “If I were, I would’ve taken out those two guards holding me at the border. In fact, I probably could’ve taken out most of your people in the time you were busy with your mate. That’s the only reason you kept me waiting so long, right?”

“Zachary!” Brianna snapped. “You can’t speak to him like that. He’s the Pack Alpha.”

Zachary glanced at her and reluctantly apologized. “Packs aren’t how I was raised. We didn’t have hierarchies.”

“You didn’t, but it sounds like you were the one in charge,” I muttered. He’d taken control of everything during our short time together.

“I suppose.”

“Why do you want to meet Athena?” I pressed as Brianna retreated inside.

“You said it yourself, Alexander. She’s a female Lycan Alpha. The last one. She needs all the protection she can get.”

“She has the pack.”

“Yes, but they aren’t Lycans.” Zachary frowned.

What he was implying hit me. “The Rogues are still alive, aren’t they?”

“One got away.”

“We can handle it.” I wasn’t afraid of any beast.

“You’ve fought Lycans before, correct?” Zachary asked.

“Yes.”

“But you haven’t battled Rogues. They’re darker. Far more dangerous than those who shift between human and beast. They don’t fight to win. They fight for food. They won’t just rip out throats or kill. They’ll tear a body apart, drag bones and organs from flesh while the prey is still alive. Feasting on them as they beg for death.”

“How did you kill them?”

“Luck. But I’ve studied them for years. I’ve provided them food. They don’t care about Wolves or other Lycans. They don’t follow commands. The only thing they care about is a full stomach.”

“You killed them in their sleep?”

“I did what had to be done.”
