Chapter 0291

‘You’re lying.’ Nyx presses.

‘If you don’t stop, I’ll find a way to shut you out,’ I snap at my Lycan.

“Can you get Alexander and Lucas?” I ask Brianna.

“Of course.”

Hannah’s eyes widen. Her heart starts racing again. “Are you going to let them shoot me?”

“Just need to check something.” I give her a small smile.

She sits quietly, twisting the ends of her hair while we wait.

Alexander is the first to arrive. He walks over and kisses my forehead. Hannah’s chestnut eyes follow the movement. A faint smile touches her lips.

“Where’s Lucas?”

“On his way. He was cleaning up.” Alexander tells me.

Hannah shudders, running her fingers through her hair. “He’s really dead?”

“Yes. Are you okay?”

“It hurts, but that’s because he marked me, right?”

I explain to Alexander that this Nathan guy wasn’t her true mate. He was keeping her like property. It made me furious. I’m a little disappointed she didn’t get to kill him herself. There’s nothing like watching the life fade from someone you despise.

I shake my head, closing my eyes. I focus on my sons, pushing the dark thoughts away. Then I catch Lucas’s scent.

“Blondie and the surfer are on guard,” he mutters. He watches me with an amused look. He’s always watching me.

“You mean Sebastian and Theodore,” Alexander corrects him.

“Right. They’ll signal when more Lycans arrive.” His hazel eyes shift to Hannah. “You told Athena you can’t shift?”

Her head whips around to glare at him. “How did you know that?”

Lucas smiles. “I know many things.” His gaze returns to me. “You wanted to see me?”

“What else do you know?” I’m still not entirely sure I believe everything he says. But he does know a lot.

He glances at her. “She’s clean.”

“What’s going on?” Hannah asks, her voice rising.

“Can you shift?” I repeat, keeping my eyes on Lucas.

“No, I swear.”

Lucas yawns. “She’s telling the truth.”

“Are you some kind of psychic?” Hannah mutters.

Lucas laughs. “No. I’m a Hunter.”

Hannah nearly falls off her chair scrambling backward. “You brought us here to be killed by a Hunter?” She demands, edging behind the desk toward me.

“You should fear me,” Lucas tells her. “But right now, you’re not on my list.” He winks at her.

She turns to me. “I know you’re the Alpha, but what are you thinking?”

Alexander growls. I hold up a hand to stop him.

“You know about Hunters?”

“Most Lycans do. So why is he here?”

“Lucas wants Seraphina dead. So do I. So do others,” I tell Hannah.

“Hunters kill our kind,” she sputters, her eyes darting between us. “You’re making a mistake. He’ll turn on you.”

Lucas laughs again. “Don’t make me reconsider, gingernut.”

“Luc!” Alexander snaps.

“I’ll be outside if you need me.”

“It’s fine.” I take a deep breath, watching Lucas leave with a grin. “Hannah, you don’t have to help us. You don’t even have to stay. But if you want to, you’re welcome.” I decided not to force anyone to help. Alexander and I disagree on that.

For so long, I wished Lycans would die out. Especially when I was told they were a dying breed. Then I got pregnant with my own Lycan sons.

“With him here?” Hannah’s voice climbs higher.

“You can stay with me,” Brianna offers.

Hannah slumps, looking around the office. She probably has nowhere to go. Not after being sold and passed around.

“Lucas wanted me to give you this,” Alexander mutters, dropping a wallet on the desk. “He took it from Nathan before burning the body. After all you’ve been through, he thinks you should have access to his money.”

“Why would he do that?” Her eyebrows shoot up. “He’s a Hunter. I’m a Lycan. He kills our kind. Is this a trick?”

“No one knows how his mind works,” Brianna mutters.

“I shouldn’t take it, should I?” Hannah asks quietly.

“Yes, you should. Think of it as compensation for what he did to you,” Brianna says happily.

Hannah slowly picks up the wallet. “He has millions.”

“I’ll have Theodore set up an account and transfer the funds,” Alexander smiles at her. “Welcome to Obsidian Howl.”
