Chapter 0142

Shit, shit, shit, shit.

My feet pace relentlessly along the sterile hospital corridor. The usual silence amplifies my frantic thoughts.

‘Would you just calm down?’ My Wolf, Midnight, rolls her eyes internally.

I’m mated to a Lycan! How am I supposed to stay calm about that?’

Athena is a Lycan.’

She’s different. I actually like her. This guy… he’s friends with Brianna. That’s a major red flag. And look at the others in his group—they’re all complete jerks! We’re stuck right in the middle of some twisted Moon Goddess scheme!”

Midnight laughs at my panic. I rarely let my inner turmoil show. Thankfully, Midnight’s composure always masks my anxiety.

‘We could talk to her?’ Midnight suggests.

Brianna? We can’t do that. It would seem like we’re betraying Athena. I made it very clear to Brianna that she isn’t welcome here.’

It might be the only way to meet our second chance mate.’

What if he’s nothing like Gabriel? What if he’s horrible? What if he despises us?”

We’ll face that when it happens. The hospital is quiet as always. Go find her!’

Stepping outside, I spot Athena and my brother engaged in a heated argument. Alexander should know better. Athena is supposed to be resting.

She’s definitely grown more confident since the pregnancy.’ Midnight observes.

Hormones and past trauma.’ I mutter in response. ‘I just hope Alexander is ready for it to get worse.”

Hey?”

Sebastian startles me. I really need to stop zoning out during internal conversations with Midnight.

“Hey Sebastian, what’s up?”

“Have you seen Theodore?”

“No. He was tutoring Athena, so…” I gesture toward the arguing couple, “I assume he went home.”

“Sure.”

“Have you seen Brianna?”

He raises an eyebrow. “She was near her house earlier.”

“Her house?”

He nods. “Alexander arranged it for her.”

That surprises me. Bringing her here after what she did to Athena was unlike him.

Sebastian walks with me to show me the house. He leaves me standing a few meters away as he goes to find Theodore.

Three times I approach the door to knock.

Three times I turn around and nearly walk away.

Just as I prepare for a fourth attempt, she yanks the door open forcefully and glares at me.

“What?” She scowls. “I’ve been watching you through the window since you arrived. You made it perfectly clear you don’t want me here. So what do you want? Did you come to insult me? Call me every name imaginable?”

I could no longer smell his scent on her. She had clearly showered, washing his scent away.

“The guy. The scent that was on you. Have you heard from him?”

“Now it makes sense.” She smirks. “The questions about him. You’re mated to him. You smelled him on me, and that’s why you’re here.”

“Apparently!” I huff.

“Last I heard, yes. He’s still alive.”

“He was killing the Lycans?”

Brianna nods. “The Rogues. Do you want to come in? I’m cooking and don’t want it to burn.”

My dark eyes scan the area for observers. I didn’t want Athena to think I’m betraying her. I just needed information about my mate.

“Sure.”

I follow her inside, and she gestures toward the small kitchen table.

“Zachary is my best friend.” Brianna tells me. “We found each other a few months after he was turned. By then, I’d been a Lycan for almost a year. A very lonely year.”

“He was bitten too?”

“By the same bitch that bit me!” Brianna pours me a coffee and slides it across the table.
