Chapter 474
Anna Ross’s heart sank.
She had known nothing about this.
“What happened?” she blurted out, her voice laced with an urgency she hadn't meant to reveal.
Noah Watson frowned and sighed. “It's Patrick Murphy, the manager we fired. He's spreading false information online.”
A commotion suddenly erupted from downstairs.
Noah, as if expecting it, quickly said goodbye and slipped into the elevator.
Anna hurried to the window.
A crowd had gathered below, swarming with media reporters.
A middle-aged woman stood among them, holding a sign.
She was too far away to hear, but the woman's agitated gestures were clear as she shouted toward the building.
Her phone rang.
Mia Lawrence’s frantic voice came through. “Anna, have you seen the news? Your company is trending!”
“What news?” Anna asked, already searching on her phone.
A headline about Sinclair Group's scandal flashed on screen.
“Sinclair Group abuses industry dominance, fires employee without cause. Disgraceful behavior.”
Anna couldn't believe her eyes.
It was complete nonsense.
She was about to speak when she noticed Howard Lowell approaching.
Her intuition told her he was behind this.
“Mia, I have to go. I’ll call you back.”
She hung up and walked straight toward Howard.
He was on the phone, a smug smile on his face.
He ended the call when he saw her.
“Did you do this?” Anna pointed at her phone, her voice icy.
Howard glanced at it and smiled with satisfaction. “This has nothing to do with me.”
Anna stared at him, searching for any hint of deception.
Seeing her disbelief, Howard patted her shoulder. “Anna, you're on my side. You should be helping me, not doubting me.”
Anna frowned and shook off his hand. “I was just asking. This affects the entire Sinclair Group. You're part of the company too. Aren't you worried?”
“Why should I be?” Howard clasped his hands behind his back and chuckled. “Adrian Sinclair is the one who will suffer the most. He never should have been involved with the company. It's time for him to get out.”
Anna found his smile repulsive.
Adrian was his own nephew, yet he could say such things.
Then again, he would stop at nothing to achieve his goals.
She had seen his true nature when he harmed her mother.
She should never have expected anything from him.
Seeing her silence, Howard’s smile faded. His tone turned threatening. “You better behave. Remember what you promised.”
Anna said nothing.
Her mother was still in his grasp. She had no choice but to submit.
