Chapter 250
Mia Lawrence released his hand and retreated to the corner of the sofa, lost in thought.
Ultimately, matters between them were just that—their own. Outsiders would always remain outsiders.
Julian Garnache didn’t chase after her, as expected. He settled beside her and offered a glass. “Can you drink?”
She nodded, a mix of nerves and happiness bubbling within her, and slowly began to converse with him.
......
Adrian Sinclair gripped Anna Ross’s wrist tightly, pushing her toward the car.
She clung to the doorframe, her eyes reddening.
“Adrian Sinclair, what do you think you’re doing!?”
He paused, his gaze fierce. “Have you forgotten what you promised me this morning?”
Anna frowned. “I haven’t forgotten. But not today.”
He let out a cold laugh. “Of course not today. Otherwise, how would you keep Julian company?”
Adrian closed in, his hands clamping down on her shoulders.
The pain was suffocating. She couldn’t move.
Pinned against the car like a lifeless fish. “I told you, he’s just like a brother to me. What will it take for you to believe me!?”
Her emotions shattered. Tears streamed down her face.
Adrian gripped her chin, studying her tear-streaked cheeks. “Since when do brothers act that intimate?”
Anna’s heart sank inch by inch.
He wouldn’t even grant her that basic trust.
“Think whatever you want.” She shoved him away abruptly and tried to leave.
Adrian held her hand firmly, silent.
She sighed, stifling her sobs, her back turned to him. “I’m tired.”
His eyes narrowed, his expression turning icy.
Anna turned to face him, her demeanor numb. “Let’s go. To the hotel.”
If this was what it took to make him happy, she would accept it.
Adrian clenched his fist, feeling her slip further from his grasp.
After a long moment, he slowly released her hand and laughed mockingly. “Just go.”
Anna whispered her thanks and turned away without hesitation.
Julian Garnache and Mia Lawrence happened to step out just then. Happily, they pulled her away with them.
Adrian remained where he stood, watching her retreating figure, overwhelmed by a sense of powerlessness.
At the dining table, Julian looked at the despondent Anna and couldn’t resist asking, “Anna, Adrian Sinclair isn’t just your boss, is he?”
Mia held her hand tightly. She had cried the entire car ride here, her eyes still swollen.
“He’s my ex-boyfriend.” Anna bit her lip and lowered her head.
