Chapter 399
Evelyn knew Alexander would never pull such a flashy stunt, so she was utterly confused.
Her first thought was that someone was playing a cruel joke on her.
The balloons ascended gracefully, painting the sky with vibrant colors.
Women in the crowd sighed at the romantic display, leaning out of windows to catch a glimpse of the mysterious sender.
"Look! There's a man down there!"
"Where? Oh my—he's holding flowers!"
"A massive bouquet! Are those... ninety-nine red roses?"
Gasps of admiration filled the air, and soon, all eyes turned toward Evelyn's office with envy.
The three women inside stood frozen.
At first, Sophia assumed it was Alexander's doing—until she saw Evelyn's expression.
Evelyn wasn't smiling.
Curious, Sophia peered out the window.
The man below was too far to recognize at first, but when he glanced up, her breath hitched.
"Dominic?!"
No one expected Dominic Reeves to orchestrate this spectacle.
Sophia shot Evelyn a worried look.
Evelyn's face darkened further.
"That worthless ex?" Vanessa scoffed, crossing her arms. "What, he suddenly remembers you exist?"
Sophia muttered, "This reeks of ulterior motives."
Dominic had never so much as bought Evelyn coffee during their relationship. Now, roses? Balloons?
Still, it wasn't her place to interfere.
"Are you going down?" Sophia asked carefully.
Evelyn's lips pressed into a thin line.
Answer enough.
"I'll handle it," Sophia offered, turning toward the door.
Evelyn stopped her with a raised hand.
"No need."
She pulled out her phone and dialed with icy calm.
"Hello? I'd like to report illegal littering. Yes, environmental pollution. The address is..."
Sophia and Vanessa exchanged impressed glances.
Meanwhile, Dominic stood proudly on the pavement below, clutching his extravagant bouquet.
He had meticulously styled his hair, dressed in a crisp white suit—Evelyn's favorite color.
She once said white symbolized purity.
He thought this grand gesture would melt her heart.
Instead, uniformed officers approached him.
"Sir, were you responsible for releasing those balloons?"
Dominic blinked.
"Yes, why?"
He had no idea what was coming.
