Chapter 400

"Sir, we've received a complaint that you're littering in public and violating environmental regulations. Please come with us for questioning," one of the officers stated firmly.

Dominic Reeves' expression twisted in disbelief. "I just released a few balloons. How is that pollution? There are vendors selling balloons on every street corner—why aren’t you arresting them?"

"Minor quantities are permitted, but excessive releases disrupt public spaces and carry legal consequences. You’ll need to take responsibility for this."

Dominic scoffed. "What consequences? Who exactly did I harm?"

The officer adjusted his cap and gestured toward the office building. "A formal complaint was filed. Your actions interfered with workplace operations."

"Who complained? Tell me who it was! I want to face them directly!" Dominic's voice rose as he jerked his arm away. "Do you even know who I am?"

Being escorted away in cuffs would be humiliating, but his resistance only worsened the situation.

Originally, he might have gotten off with a fine. But his defiance ensured they followed protocol to the letter.

Dominic had meticulously planned this grand gesture, yet it had collapsed before Evelyn Carter even glimpsed it. Authorities hauled him away without her ever knowing he was there.

Upstairs, Evelyn and Victoria Sterling watched the scene unfold through the window, satisfaction curling their lips.

"Evelyn, that was brilliant," Sophia Grant exclaimed, clapping her hands. "You defeated him without lifting a finger!"

Victoria smirked. "I haven’t laughed that hard in weeks."

Evelyn had extended kindness to Dominic before, only to be met with cold indifference. Now he dared to reappear, expecting her to play along? Ridiculous.

"Pathetic," Evelyn murmured, shaking her head.

She didn’t know what Dominic hoped to achieve with such a spectacle, but it reeked of desperation. Their relationship was over. The theatrics only proved how little he understood her.

Outside the office, whispers buzzed among the staff. None suspected Evelyn had orchestrated Dominic’s removal—they only saw a man in a suit being led away by officers.

"Alright, everyone, back to work!" Victoria called, shooing them off. "This doesn’t concern any of you."

Once the door shut, she turned to Evelyn. "It’s quiet for now, but he might try something else. Are you still planning to avoid him?"

"Let’s just have him arrested again," Sophia quipped.

Victoria arched a brow. "And if this keeps happening? What will the company think? Not to mention—" She paused meaningfully. "You do have a new boyfriend now. What if Alexander Kensington hears about this?"

Sophia’s eyes widened. "Oh. Right." She glanced nervously at Evelyn.

The unspoken implication hung heavy—Alexander wouldn’t take kindly to an ex causing public scenes.

Evelyn exhaled. "I’ll handle it."

Her tone was calm, but resolve steeled beneath the words. This ended now.
