Chapter 383

Evelyn leaned in, curiosity getting the better of her. The name Sebastian Winslow flashed across Alexander’s screen.

She glanced at Alexander.

His jaw was tight, his gaze sharp with irritation. Yet, he answered.

"What?"

Sebastian froze. Maybe it was the ice in Alexander’s tone, or the way his expression could cut glass.

He had come prepared with a rant, but now, words failed him.

A soft laugh escaped Evelyn.

She caught a glimpse of the man on the screen—his wide-eyed, deer-in-headlights look was priceless.

Poor timing.

Alexander was already in a mood, and Sebastian had chosen this exact moment to video call.

"There’s a woman with you?"

Sebastian’s ears were sharp. Even Evelyn’s quiet amusement hadn’t gone unnoticed.

His voice returned with a vengeance. "Alex! So it’s true! Cassie was right—some temptress has gotten her claws into you!"

Evelyn’s lips parted in disbelief.

Alexander’s expression darkened further. "Say that again."

Sebastian choked.

The sheer menace in Alexander’s voice was enough to make him shrink back.

But pride flared. I’m here for my sister. I can’t back down now.

"Prove me wrong!" Sebastian squared his shoulders. "Show me your room! And what’s this sudden trip to Laurentia about?"

Evelyn’s eyes narrowed.

We’re married. Legally.

From the name and the way Sebastian spoke, she pieced it together—this was Cassandra’s brother.

Here to play the knight in shining armor.

"Sebastian Winslow."

Alexander’s voice was slow, deliberate.

His expression hadn’t changed, but the temperature in the room dropped.

Sebastian’s spine prickled.

"What?"

"Are you trying to die?"

Silence.

Then—

"Dude!" Sebastian whined. "Don’t take it out on me! Cassie’s been crying nonstop since you blocked her. She’s driving me insane. You get it, right?"

"She’s your sister."

Wow. Zero sympathy.

"You’re heartless!" Sebastian accused.

Evelyn smirked. Great minds think alike.

"Humanity is reserved for humans," Alexander said flatly.

Sebastian blinked. "What?"

He’s calling you inhuman. Brutal.

Evelyn bit her lip. Alexander’s cutting remarks were an art form. She was just glad she wasn’t on the receiving end.

"Nothing. Are we done?" Alexander’s thumb hovered over the end call button.

"Wait!" Sebastian blurted. "What about Cassie? You can’t just leave her like this. Are you really cutting her off forever?"

He couldn’t believe Alexander would go that far.

This was just a temporary punishment.

Cassandra needed to learn her lesson, but Sebastian didn’t want to be her emotional punching bag.

"We’ll see," Alexander said, tone indifferent.
