Chapter 384

"Sure, but—"

Before Sebastian could finish, Alexander cut him off with that chilling tone again. "Sebastian..."

"What now?"

Sebastian suppressed a shiver. Why does he have to say my name like that? It’s downright terrifying.

"Don’t video call me again."

Sebastian blinked. "W-Why?"

Deep down, he knew Alexander’s answer wouldn’t be flattering, but curiosity got the better of him.

"Because you’re hideous."

The call ended abruptly.

Sebastian was left gaping at his phone, while Evelyn, who had been listening in, burst into muffled laughter.

Is he always this ruthless with his friends? No wonder he’s made so many enemies. Then again, he probably doesn’t care.

Watching Alexander’s interactions was like witnessing a comedy sketch—except she had to stifle her amusement. She had failed earlier, letting out a soft giggle that Sebastian had definitely caught.

And since he’d called her a siren who’d bewitched Alexander, she made a mental note to pay him back later.

"Why are you so amused?" Alexander’s voice snapped her back to reality.

She was sprawled on the couch, face buried in a throw pillow, shoulders shaking with silent laughter.

"I’m fine," she lied, sitting up but failing to wipe the grin off her face.

"It’s just… being your friend must be exhausting."

If Alexander spoke this bluntly to someone as close as Sebastian, she could only imagine how brutal he was with mere acquaintances. The realization made her wary—this man was not to be trifled with.

"Exhausting?"

Alexander leaned down, caging her between his arms and the couch. His gaze was intense.

"Good thing you don’t have to be my friend, then."

Evelyn blinked. "Oh?"

His lips curved. "You just have to be mine."

Her breath hitched. Where did that come from?

Before she could process it, he shifted gears. "Let’s talk about Cassandra. You’re really not jealous?"

Evelyn groaned internally. Why is he fixated on this? Shouldn’t he be glad I trust him?

Cautiously, she tested the waters. "Should I… be?"

His expression darkened instantly. "That’s not the right question."

She frowned. Then what is? You’re impossible to read!

Biting her lip, she decided to humor him. "Fine. I’m furious. Tell me everything about Cassandra—no, every woman you’ve ever been close to. And swear you’ll never have another female 'family friend' again. Got it?"

For a second, his tense shoulders relaxed.

Then she ruined it. "…Was that the right answer?"

Alexander stared at her, utterly speechless.
