Chapter 214
"It's not him." Shaking her head, Evelyn sighed as she continued to type.
What a ridiculous misunderstanding. She had just compared Isabella's description of Harrison to Dominic. Evelyn felt utterly foolish.
Though the photo was slightly blurred, Evelyn could tell Dominic was in the car with Harrison from the quick reply and freshly-taken appearance.
Before she could pinpoint their location, another message flashed from Dominic: "Want more?"
Evelyn knew he meant Harrison's photos. "No need, that's enough," she typed hastily.
Why would she need multiple photos of Harrison? She only wanted to clear up Isabella's confusion. Then more texts arrived.
"Sure you don't need it?"
"Don't you want mine?"
"Pfft—" Evelyn choked on her water, coughing violently. Though just cold text on a screen, she could practically feel Dominic's displeasure radiating through. Was he seriously jealous she hadn't asked for his photo?
"You okay?" Isabella patted her back curiously. "Who are you texting? And who was that guy if not your boyfriend? Why would he deliver something so late? And why do you have his photo?"
The questions piled up, making Isabella increasingly suspicious. Something felt off, but she couldn't pinpoint what.
Still coughing, Evelyn waved a hand. She needed to appease Dominic first. Snatching her phone, she typed: "I have you in person. Why would I need photos?"
In the car, Dominic stared at his screen. The tense line of his mouth finally curved into a smile.
Harrison watched his boss through the rearview mirror, horrified. The man had been scowling for hours—what witchcraft caused this sudden change?
"I'll take photos when I get back, okay?" Evelyn added, hoping to seal the deal.
"Fine." Dominic's reply came instantly.
Evelyn exhaled in relief—then jumped when she found Isabella's face inches from hers.
"Ugh," Isabella fake-gagged, "since when are you so corny? I think I just got diabetes!"
Amused, Evelyn stood and ruffled Isabella's hair. "Enough. Finish eating and get back to work. Clean this up while I check the results."
"Sure, boss." Isabella smirked. "Wouldn't want to delay your romantic photoshoot." She added slyly, "Speaking of which—why show me that guy's photo? I want to see your boyfriend!"
Evelyn paused at the doorway, hand on the frame. "Sounds like I didn't give you enough work tonight."
"I've been pulling an all-nighter with you! This is my entertainment tax!"
As Isabella gathered trash, she recalled the name on Evelyn's screen. "Wait... Dominic Kensington? Why does that sound familiar?"
Evelyn froze.
