Chapter 195
"Evelyn, have you lost your damn mind? You're acting like a rabid animal! What the hell do you think you're doing?"
Dominic's furious voice exploded through the phone the second Evelyn answered.
She had anticipated his reaction, so she held the phone slightly away from her ear, unfazed.
A cold smirk curled her lips as she replied, "Mr. Reeves, rabid animals attack indiscriminately. But unlike you, I know exactly who I'm targeting—so rest assured, this is only for you."
"You—" Dominic sucked in a sharp breath. If she had been standing in front of him, he would’ve torn her apart.
"Evelyn Carter, I know what this is about. I made sure Sophia Grant wouldn’t be your little lapdog anymore, so now you’re coming after me for revenge."
"Finally, we’re on the same page. Though, I must say—don’t insult animals. They’re far more intelligent and loyal than you could ever hope to be," she shot back, her voice dripping with icy disdain.
She didn’t care if he hurled insults at her, but she would not tolerate him mocking her friends.
Sensing her rising fury, Alexander wrapped his arms around her, pulling her into his embrace. The warmth of his body steadied her. He was her anchor, her unshakable support—no matter what storm raged around them.
"I won’t waste time arguing with you, but don’t think you’ve won. Leaking DR Holdings’ perfume formulas was a low blow, but what you just did was corporate espionage. We will take this to court, and you will pay for the damages. You’ve made a fatal mistake, Evelyn. Sooner or later, you’ll regret it."
Dominic had been in the middle of discussing wedding plans with Vanessa when the board called him in the dead of night, demanding answers. Their most lucrative perfume formulas had been leaked, costing the company millions. Stunned, he scoured the internet, confirming the reports.
There was no doubt—Evelyn was behind this.
But as his rage cooled, he realized she had just handed him a weapon. If she had leaked proprietary information, she could be held legally accountable.
"Corporate espionage?" Evelyn let out a derisive laugh. "Mr. Reeves, don’t make me laugh. Did you forget I never signed an employment contract with DR Holdings? I was never officially hired. So tell me—how could I possibly be liable for leaking information I was never legally bound to protect? How would a nobody like me even get access to such classified data?"
Her tone turned mocking. "Someone as brilliant as you should’ve safeguarded those formulas, shouldn’t you? How could such negligence happen under your watch? Oh, wait—Vanessa Blake invented those formulas, didn’t she? Maybe she was upset with how you treated her and decided to leak them herself?"
"Shut your mouth! Vanessa would never betray me!" Dominic snarled. "You think I can’t prove it was you? I’ll have IT trace the IP addresses of those accounts. You will be exposed."
"Mr. Reeves, those Twitter accounts weren’t mine. How exactly do you plan to prove I had access to confidential information?" She paused, her patience wearing thin.
Then, her voice dropped to a lethal whisper. "Let me give you a warning. I’ve known you long enough to uncover a few… interesting secrets. Those lavish gifts for Vanessa? That extravagant trip abroad? I know exactly where that money came from."
A slow, chilling smile spread across her face. "What do you think the board would say if they found out you’ve been embezzling company funds for personal indulgences?"
For the first time, Alexander felt a pang of sorrow beneath his anger. This was the most furious he had ever seen her—her entire body trembling with suppressed rage, as if she were burning from within.
