Chapter 461
The revelation made Vivian's instincts flare. She turned to Beatrice, her voice laced with cautious curiosity. "Could Julian possibly be involved in something like this?" Even as the words left her lips, Vivian mentally dismissed the idea. Julian's impeccable reputation made such speculation seem absurd.
Beatrice's response was enigmatic. "In a way, yes. But it was his father who had the gambling problem. Leonard had to step in, ultimately cutting him off from the Blackwood Group to force him to face his demons." She shot her husband a knowing look. "You know how stubborn our men can be."
Leonard maintained his stern expression. "Why drag me into this? We're discussing Charles' actions, not family traits."
Watching the elderly couple's playful bickering brought a smile to Vivian's face. She wondered if she and Adrian might share such lighthearted moments in their golden years.
Beatrice continued with a chuckle, "Charles didn't stop there. He moved on to horse racing in Silverpine, made a fortune, then relocated to Rosewood and established himself as a prominent casino operator."
Leonard sighed deeply, leaning back in his chair. "Charles has an iron will - completely different from Richard. If Richard had possessed even half that determination, Adrian wouldn't have had to shoulder the Blackwood legacy alone so young."
Vivian pieced together that Richard must be Adrian's father, while Charles was Julian's.
Beatrice's expression darkened. "Unchecked determination can be dangerous. Gambling is one thing, but he's entangled with underworld figures overseas. It's only a matter of time before disaster strikes."
Vivian leaned forward, startled. "Does Julian know about this?"
Beatrice shrugged. "We've lost touch since Adrian severed relations with the Montclairs. Charles has lived abroad for years - they're practically strangers now."
Leonard added thoughtfully, "There was a brief period when Julian studied abroad in Ravenshore. Their relationship might have improved then."
Beatrice scoffed. "I doubt Charles would involve Julian in his dealings. Julian's always been principled and upstanding - nothing like his father."
After a pause, Beatrice turned to Vivian with a warm smile. "Since you already know Julian, maintaining contact would be good. Family connections matter. And you, my dear, have such a radiant presence."
"Your positivity could be a good influence on him."
Before Vivian could respond, her phone buzzed urgently.
