Chapter 369

The silence stretched between them until Serena finally stopped crying. Adrian waited patiently before speaking again. "Take some time to consider where you'd like to relocate. Azurevale isn't your only option. Ravenshore, Frostholm... or perhaps I could purchase you a private island."

His decision was final this time. When Serena had returned to Crestwood, Adrian thought having her nearby would be manageable - that he could look after her properly. But she wanted more than he could ever provide. The emotional connection she craved was something he'd never been able to give, even during their relationship years ago. Their physical intimacy had never progressed beyond brief embraces and chaste kisses. Now, with Vivian in his life, he had even less to offer Serena.

Keeping her in the country amidst the media circus would only hurt all three of them. The choice was clear - Serena needed to leave.

When she remained silent, Adrian murmured, "Get some rest," before ending the call. He set down his phone and met Vivian's questioning gaze. Before she could speak, he said, "I know you have questions. When the time is right, I'll explain everything."

"But not now." Vivian simply nodded. "I understand. I'm going to shower."

Adrian had already compromised by agreeing to send Serena away, so Vivian was willing to meet him halfway. The past belonged in the past. As long as it didn't threaten their marriage, she had no interest in digging up old wounds.

After her shower, Vivian filled a basin with warm water to help Adrian freshen up. As she gently cleaned his torso, she felt his body respond instantly. Quickly averting her eyes, she pretended not to notice as she helped him back into his pajama bottoms. Adrian made no move to pursue the moment.

Vivian turned off the lights and slipped into bed. Adrian lay staring at the ceiling, his expression unreadable. She could practically hear him thinking about Serena. Rolling onto her side, she curled into the blankets, exhausted from the day's emotional turmoil. Everything had happened so fast - she could only reassure herself that this was for the best.

Just as sleep began to claim her, Adrian's strong arms encircled her waist, pulling her against his chest. She nestled into his warmth, breathing in his familiar scent of sandalwood and citrus. His lips brushed against her hair as he whispered, "Goodnight."

Safe in his embrace, she finally drifted into peaceful sleep.

The next morning, golden sunlight filtered through the curtains, rousing Vivian from sleep. She stretched lazily, reaching for Adrian, only to find his side of the bed empty and cool.

Sitting up, she scanned the room before padding to the bedroom door. Peering down the staircase, she spotted Gwendolyn polishing the banister.

"Gwendolyn," Vivian called down, "where's Adrian?"
