Chapter 25
The director flipped through his audition notes with a thoughtful expression. His fingers paused mid-page. "Honestly, if we hadn't witnessed Vivian's performance today, Serena's audition might have stood out more. She's currently trending everywhere, and her social media influence is massive."
Serena wasn't just any candidate.
She was the director's personal choice for the female lead.
At the height of her fame, she was every producer's dream casting - guaranteed to bring in viewers.
The director leaned back, considering giving her another shot.
Julian, who had been silently observing, finally spoke. "We must remember this drama is based on a bestselling novel series with millions of devoted fans. Casting decisions should honor the source material above star power."
The screenwriter nodded vigorously. "Precisely. Book adaptations come with built-in challenges. The readers are our harshest critics. Nailing the female lead is make-or-break for this project."
His mind drifted to Vivian. "The moment Vivian walked in, she became the character I'd envisioned while writing. Her interpretation was startlingly authentic - far beyond Serena's performance."
"Serena had the script a full week in advance," he continued, "yet her delivery was barely adequate. Is it lack of preparation or limited range?"
From the agent's earlier reaction, the latter seemed more likely.
Miranda had been pacing outside the waiting area for what felt like hours before cornering a harried production assistant.
With a smooth exchange and a designer gift bag, she extracted crucial information about the ongoing deliberations.
"What? They're actually considering Vivian for the lead?" Miranda gasped, her manicured nails digging into her palms.
Serena's perfect composure faltered for just a second.
Miranda's brow furrowed. "Do you think this is deliberate? With her messy divorce from Mr. Blackwood pending, is she trying to steal this role from you out of spite?"
"Perhaps not," Serena murmured, her teeth worrying her lower lip. "But if their separation involves me... then her resentment makes sense. If she wants this role that badly, she should have it. It's a shame though - I truly connected with the character."
Despite her gracious words, disappointment flickered across her delicate features.
Miranda placed a comforting hand on her shoulder. "Serena, you're too kind! Remember, Vivian was the one who came between you and Mr. Blackwood. She owes you an apology!"
"And think of everything you've sacrificed for this role - even your health! I'm the only one who knows how much you've suffered. You deserve this part - why should you step aside for her?"
With sudden determination, Miranda pulled out her phone.
Serena looked alarmed. "Miranda! You're not calling Adrian about this, are you? Don't drag him into something so trivial!"
