Chapter 229
A few carefully crafted words had secured her a significant salary increase.
Vivian felt like she'd struck gold.
She glanced around Seabreeze Villa.
Everything remained unchanged since her departure.
Turning to Gwendolyn, she said casually, "Prepare a guest room—"
Adrian interrupted sharply. "I won't be returning soon, so it's unnecessary."
Vivian maintained her composure. "I'm not requesting sleeping quarters. I need a workspace."
She was laying groundwork for a bigger scheme.
To convincingly play reconciled spouses, they needed proper staging.
Pushing Serena to desperation would make her reveal her true colors.
Adrian's expression softened. "Convert the sunniest guest room on the second floor into a study. Order new furnishings for delivery by tomorrow."
He turned to Vivian, his tone unexpectedly even. "Anything else you require?"
Vivian considered briefly before answering. "A desktop computer with a large screen."
Writing scripts on her laptop had strained her posture.
If not for Serena's meddling, their divorce would have been finalized months ago.
Since circumstances forced this arrangement, she might as well maximize the benefits.
Adrian nodded toward Ethan, who immediately responded. "Right away, Mr. Blackwood. I'll see to it personally."
He handed Vivian's satchel to Gwendolyn.
The housekeeper clutched the bag, visibly shaken.
The sudden shift in dynamics unsettled her.
Unable to contain herself, she blurted out, "You'll be sharing a bedroom?"
Vivian's eyes narrowed. "Isn't that expected of married couples?" Her tone turned icy.
Gwendolyn quickly backtracked, forcing cheer into her voice. "Mrs. Blackwood, you misunderstand! I merely wondered if you and Mr. Blackwood were reconciling. I'm delighted for you both!"
Vivian's lips curved slightly. "My return should answer that question."
Taking her satchel from Gwendolyn's grasp, she added, "I'll take this upstairs myself. I'm exhausted and won't be joining dinner."
Without awaiting response, she ascended the staircase.
"Warm the milk in the refrigerator and bring it to the master suite," Adrian instructed Gwendolyn before following Vivian.
Upstairs, Vivian closed and locked the bedroom door.
Moments later, the sound of the lock disengaging startled her.
