Chapter 86
"Release me, Dominic!" Evelyn snapped, her voice icy. "Explain yourself. Now."
Dominic Reeves tightened his grip instead of letting go. There were too many unanswered questions burning in his mind.
"Your actions constitute harassment, Mr. Reeves," Sebastian interjected, but Dominic cut him off with a furious growl. "Stay out of this!" His gaze locked onto Evelyn. "Tell me the truth. Did you tamper with the documents? Are they forged?"
A cold dread slithered down Dominic’s spine at the mere thought.
Evelyn didn’t respond. Instead, she stared pointedly at his hand clamped around her wrist. "I’ll only say this once," she warned, her tone lethal. "Let go, or I’ll finish this the same way I did last time."
Her words triggered a sharp memory—the alley, the way she had effortlessly overpowered him. Dominic released her instantly, his pulse quickening. He hadn’t forgotten her speed, her strength.
"If you ever lay a hand on me like that again, Mr. Reeves, I’ll break it," Evelyn spat, wiping her wrist with a disinfectant wipe before tossing it into the nearest trash bin. Then, without another word, she turned and walked away.
Vanessa Blake snapped out of her daze as Evelyn disappeared. "Why did you let her leave?" she demanded, her voice shrill. "She hasn’t explained anything! Since when do you take orders from her? Have you forgotten the mess DR Holdings is in? She must have altered those documents!"
She grabbed Dominic’s sleeve, her nails digging in. "What were you thinking? Why didn’t you demand the real ones? Are you even listening to me?" Her voice rose hysterically. "Dominic, tell me the truth—you still have feelings for her, don’t you? And what did she mean by 'last time'? What aren’t you telling me?"
Her relentless questions grated on his nerves. Dominic’s patience snapped. "Enough!" He shoved her hand away. "This is your fault. If you weren’t so incompetent, I wouldn’t have had to beg her in the first place!"
Vanessa recoiled as if struck, her face paling. Dominic barely registered her shock—his mind was already spiraling into chaos.
