Chapter 64

Sebastian shook his head. "I can't be certain, but Ms. Carter's tone was unshakable."

He leaned forward, resting his elbows on the desk. "With the evidence we've gathered, victory is practically guaranteed. You really shouldn't worry so much, Mr. Reeves."

Yet Dominic remained visibly agitated. How could he not?

Sebastian wasn't concerned because he only saw the surface-level proof. Dominic, however, knew the truth—DR Holdings' success over the years was built on Evelyn's relentless efforts. Why was she suddenly so resolute? So final?

Dominic felt trapped. If he couldn't reverse this situation, every employee at DR Holdings would be dragged into a brutal, endless battle.

Evelyn had to know she stood no chance. So why wouldn't she back down? Did Phoenix Labs give her this confidence, or was she hiding something? The uncertainty gnawed at him.

"Understood. When does the trial begin?"

"Next week."

"Prepare thoroughly. And keep trying to reach Evelyn. Tell her... we can settle this privately. For old times' sake. Be subtle about it. Do you understand?"

"Yes, but—" Sebastian hesitated.

"That's all." Dominic dismissed him with a wave.

Sebastian left, confusion lingering in his expression.

The door barely closed before Vanessa strode in—no knock, as usual. Everyone knew that while Vanessa technically headed R&D, her real title was "the CEO's fiancée."

Outside, whispers erupted the moment the door shut.

"Did you see the latest headlines? About our CEO and his so-called fiancée?"

"Who even is his real fiancée?"

"Come on, it's obviously Vanessa. Who else?"

"I read the article. Some homewrecker tried to break them up after years together. Then she stole company secrets on her way out. That technician—what's her name—"

"Evelyn!"

"Right, Evelyn! She seemed so sweet too. Who would've guessed?"

"I once saw her getting cozy with Mr. Reeves. Never thought it'd escalate like this."

"Cozy? Try engaged. I overheard them setting a date to get married."

"What?! Spill everything! Is this why everything's blowing up now?"

The office WhatsApp group buzzed nonstop. Employees typed furiously, thrilled by the drama unfolding right in front of them.

Inside the office, Vanessa glanced through the blinds at the whispering crowd. Their stares prickled her skin. With an irritated flick, she yanked the blinds shut.

Pathetic nobodies.

"Nate," she purred, draping herself over Dominic's shoulder, "you've been neglecting me. I'm suffocating here."

"You want to go out?" He drained his coffee in one gulp. "Do you not realize what's happening? Evelyn is taking us to court."
