Chapter 482
The phone buzzed on Alexander Kensington's desk, interrupting his concentration. His assistant, Sebastian Wright, stood nervously by the door, clutching a tablet.
"Sir, there's something you should see."
Alexander glanced up, his piercing blue eyes narrowing. "What is it?"
Sebastian hesitated before stepping forward. "Reporters captured photos of you at Mercy General Hospital. They're... circulating."
Alexander leaned back in his chair, unfazed. "So? I was there. It's public property."
Sebastian swallowed hard. "That's not the issue, sir. The photos show you with a woman. And the way you two were standing—it looks... intimate."
A beat of silence.
Alexander's expression darkened. He reached for the tablet, swiping through the images. There he was, standing close to Evelyn Carter in the hospital corridor, his hand resting lightly on her arm. The angle made it seem far more personal than it had been.
Sebastian cleared his throat. "Several media outlets reached out for comment before publishing. They wanted your approval."
Alexander scoffed, tossing the tablet onto the desk. "As if they need my permission. They're just covering their backs."
Across town, Cassandra Winslow stormed into her brother Sebastian Winslow's office, her heels clicking sharply against the marble floor.
"You've been avoiding me," she accused, slamming her palms onto his desk.
Sebastian jumped, nearly spilling his coffee. "What? No, I haven't."
Cassandra crossed her arms. "Don't lie. I know you met with Alexander. What aren't you telling me?"
Sebastian wiped his hands on a napkin, avoiding her gaze. "It's nothing. Just business."
"Business?" Cassandra scoffed. She grabbed his tie, yanking him forward. "Try again."
Sebastian choked, his face turning red. "Cass—let go—"
Employees in the open office space froze, watching the scene unfold.
Cassandra ignored them, dragging him toward his private office. "We're talking. Now."
Sebastian stumbled after her, gasping for air. "You're insane!"
She shoved him inside and slammed the door. "Start talking."
Sebastian loosened his tie, glaring. "Fine! You want the truth? Alexander's involved with Evelyn Carter. And it's complicated."
Cassandra's eyes flashed. "How complicated?"
Sebastian exhaled sharply. "The kind that could ruin everything."
A tense silence settled between them.
Cassandra clenched her fists. "Then we fix it."
Sebastian shook his head. "You don't understand. This isn't something we can just—"
She cut him off. "Watch me."
Without another word, she turned and stormed out, leaving Sebastian staring after her, dread pooling in his gut.
