Chapter 429

The trio froze as they read the apology post.

This wasn’t an apology—it was a masterclass in deflection.

Dominic Reeves had penned an entire essay, but Evelyn Carter, Sophia Grant, and Victoria Sterling could distill it down to one thing:

He was playing the victim.

First, Dominic claimed he had spent days meticulously reviewing the records, finally confirming that the previous products were Evelyn’s work, not Vanessa Blake’s.

The misunderstanding, he insisted, was due to Vanessa’s deception. He had been fooled, just like everyone else. Now that he knew the truth, he was consumed with regret and wanted to apologize to Evelyn.

Second, he declared that his relationships with Vanessa and Evelyn were personal matters, not for public discussion. But since people were so invested, he felt compelled to clarify—he had no regrets because he had been in love.

The entire post dripped with false sincerity. He ended it by vowing to accept any consequences Evelyn demanded, claiming he owed her and would do whatever she asked to make amends.

The public might swallow his words, but the trio saw right through them.

"Unbelievable," Sophia spat, slamming her phone down.

"I have to hand it to him," Victoria mused, shaking her head. "The man knows how to spin a story."

"Admire him? He’s a lying snake!" Sophia snapped.

"Oh, absolutely," Victoria agreed. "But he’s a skilled one. He knows when to retreat, when to play weak, and how to twist truth with lies so seamlessly that no one can untangle them."

Evelyn nodded. Victoria was right.

Dominic couldn’t hide the truth anymore, so he buried it in half-truths. He painted himself as another victim—blaming Vanessa, who was conveniently locked away and couldn’t defend herself.

"I’m exposing this," Sophia declared, already reaching for her laptop. "People need to know what a fraud he is."

Evelyn stopped her with a hand on her wrist. "And say what? That he did know? Who’s going to believe us over him? Vanessa’s in prison—she can’t confirm or deny anything. He chose his scapegoat carefully."

Sophia clenched her fists. "So we just let him get away with this?"

"For now," Evelyn said calmly.

Sophia groaned. "Again with the waiting?"

Evelyn smirked. "Patience, Sophia. You’ve worked with me long enough to know—rushing ruins the process. If I strike, it has to be decisive. No room for him to squirm free."

Sophia exhaled sharply, then mimed zipping her lips. "Fine. I’ll pretend I didn’t see a thing."

But the fire in her eyes said otherwise.
