Chapter 386

"Only heaven knows!"

The way Evelyn rolled her eyes was utterly endearing to Alexander, drawing an amused smile from him.

Joy radiated from his gaze, spreading warmth across his features like sunlight melting winter frost.

"Alright, let's leave the past behind. No more dwelling on it," he murmured.

Then, he reached out, fingers brushing lightly over her hair. "Who called?"

Evelyn huffed, smoothing down the strands he'd ruffled. Let bygones be bygones?

He was the one who stormed off yesterday. Now he’s acting like nothing happened?

But seeing Alexander back to his usual charming self, she decided not to press the issue.

"Serena called. She invited me to dinner tonight, and I agreed. So—any plans for you? If not, I’ll go meet her."

"None at all. Go ahead."

His lips curved into that effortless smile of his.

Truthfully, Alexander had two more business meetings lined up.

Since they were already in Laurentia, he intended to wrap up all pending matters in one go.

"By the way," he added casually, "did I hear you mention a Mr. Blackwood?"

Evelyn burst into laughter.

"You thought it was the same Mr. Blackwood from yesterday? That was my first reaction too when Serena brought him up. But no, just a coincidence—same surname. This one’s the father of a little boy I helped. He wants to thank me personally. Isn’t it strange? Almost every Veridian I’ve met here shares that name. Did their entire bloodline migrate here or something?"

Though she said it lightly, Alexander’s interest sharpened.

Is "Blackwood" really that common among Veridians in Laurentia? Or am I reading too much into this?

Still, he was far more intrigued by his wife’s unexpected heroics.

"When did you save a child?"

They’d barely been apart a few days, yet she’d already woven herself into another story.

"Pure chance," she shrugged. "I was at a restaurant, and the boy had a severe allergic reaction. I knew basic first aid, so I stepped in. Didn’t think much of it afterward."

Alexander dipped his head, pressing a kiss to her temple.

"You’re incredible. Is there anything you can’t do?"

She ducked away with a giggle. "You should be asking what I can do instead!"

Then, darting toward the bedroom, she called over her shoulder, "And just so we’re clear—you’re not invited today!"

Alexander clutched his chest dramatically. "Such cruelty! You wound me!"

Her laughter echoed through the room.

Evelyn and Serena had arranged to meet at noon.

The mysterious Mr. Blackwood claimed to be a busy man, yet he’d insisted on expressing his gratitude properly—lunch or dinner, whichever suited them.

Though he’d suggested lunch, citing an evening client meeting.

Typical businessman. Evelyn rolled her eyes. Just like Alexander—every second scheduled, even during what’s supposed to be a personal gesture.

Honestly, she hated these formal interactions.

She’d much rather be elbow-deep in petals and essential oils, crafting her next fragrance.
