Chapter 354
"Alright..." Evelyn murmured. She was fine, completely fine. Vanessa, on the other hand, was restless. The theme for the finals weighed heavily on her mind.
Lucien hadn’t been able to give her any clues.
According to him, the finals' theme was personally decided by the judge—most likely Mr. Whitaker—and the organizers hadn’t disclosed who it was. Without that crucial piece of information, Lucien couldn’t leverage his connections to get an early advantage.
Without it, Vanessa had no confidence in winning.
Truthfully, she was like a student about to fail an exam without cheating. Soon, she’d be humiliated in front of the entire nation. She needed to find Lucien and discuss their next move. Even if she couldn’t win, she wouldn’t let Evelyn—that wretched woman—take the crown.
But no matter how many times she knocked on his door, no one answered.
She tried calling, but he didn’t pick up.
Unease settled in her chest, growing heavier with each passing minute. Her instincts screamed that something was wrong.
"Aside from minor cuts, she’s perfectly fine," the doctor assured Alexander as he removed his stethoscope.
"Are you certain?" Alexander remained skeptical. He wanted Evelyn to be unharmed, but he wouldn’t rest until she’d been thoroughly examined.
"Mr. Kensington, I assure you, I’ve conducted a full check-up. Everything is normal. If Mrs. Kensington still feels unwell, we could perform a CT scan or an MRI—"
"No, no, I’m fine, really!" Evelyn cut in quickly. "I feel completely normal."
The doctor gave Alexander a knowing look. Finally, he relented with a nod. "What about the other woman?"
"Yes, I examined her as well. The drug has nearly cleared from her system. She should regain consciousness soon. If you’re still concerned, we can run further tests once she wakes." The doctor hesitated, glancing at Evelyn. "Though… there’s something odd."
Alexander tensed. "What is it?"
"It’s nothing serious," the doctor said, shaking his head. "But both Mrs. Kensington and Ms. Laurent were drugged, correct? Strangely, I couldn’t detect any trace of the drug in Mrs. Kensington’s system."
Evelyn paused, then smiled. "Maybe my metabolism is just that good. Didn’t you say Adrienne’s system is nearly clear too? Mine might just be faster."
The doctor considered this before nodding. "It’s not impossible. Though, that would mean your metabolism is faster than even a grown man’s."
"I suppose. I wouldn’t know for sure," Evelyn replied with an innocent smile.
The doctor studied her for a moment before finally accepting the explanation and leaving without another word.
Alexander sat beside her, his gaze intense. "Are you really okay?"
