Chapter 340

Evelyn watched as Dmitri bent slightly, his fingers brushing against the soft fabric of the discarded jacket.

A sudden tension gripped the air.

Just as he began to turn, his body froze mid-motion. His hips locked in place, muscles refusing to obey. Panic flashed across his face as he strained against invisible restraints.

His head remained immobile, eyes darting wildly. When he tried to scream, only silence emerged - his vocal cords paralyzed by the same unseen force.

'What's happening to me?' The terror in Dmitri's eyes was palpable.

Evelyn had planned this carefully. First immobilize, then interrogate. But she'd underestimated his reflexes. The scream building in his throat forced her to act faster than intended.

One by one, she took control of his bodily functions. There would be time for questions later.

Upstairs, Viktor grew suspicious. The prolonged silence was unnatural. His hand drifted to the concealed weapon at his hip as he ascended the staircase.

"Damn it! What are you two idiots doing?" Viktor's voice boomed through the hallway. "Get your asses out here now or there'll be hell to pay!"

He kicked the door with enough force to send it crashing against the wall.

The scene before him made his blood run cold.

Dmitri stood frozen like a statue, eyes wide with terror but mouth slack and silent. The unnatural stillness sent chills down Viktor's spine.

"Volkov? Sokolov?"

Viktor's grip tightened on his gun, finger hovering over the trigger. The door swung fully open, revealing the dimly lit room.

A shadowy figure stood with its back to him.

"Sokolov?" Viktor squinted.

The figure spun with inhuman speed. A gunshot rang out before Viktor could react.

White-hot pain exploded in his wrist. His weapon clattered to the floor.

He barely had time to register the attack before a crushing blow to his knees sent him sprawling. The sickening crack of bone echoed through the room.

As numbness spread through his limbs, Viktor managed one last look at his attacker.

His breath caught.

Her.

The fragile-looking girl stood over him, eyes cold and calculating. Impossible. She couldn't have taken them all down alone.

"Looking for reinforcements?" Evelyn's voice was ice. "There aren't any."

She knelt beside him, studying his panicked expression. "Scream all you want. No one's coming to save you."

Across the room, Dmitri remained frozen in silent horror. Nearby, Ivan continued sleeping, oblivious to the chaos.

The hunter had become the hunted.
