Chapter 330

Alexander glanced at Cassandra's car parked haphazardly by the curb.

"I'm heading to the office. Why don't you come with me?"

He already knew she would insist on driving separately—she always did.

To his surprise, the moment the words left his mouth, she dashed to the passenger side, flung the door open, and slid into the seat with a delighted squeal.

"Okay, okay!"

"What about your car?" Alexander arched a brow.

"Who cares? Just leave it!" She waved a dismissive hand. "I'll ride back with you tonight and pick it up then."

Oh my God! She clapped her hands in silent glee, thrilled at the prospect of sharing a car with him.

"It might get towed before we return," Alexander pointed out dryly.

"Let it." She shrugged. "Even if it does, I'll just have someone retrieve it. Anyway, Alex—what do you feel like eating? I wasn’t sure if your tastes changed, so I brought a few options. Take your pick!"

Beaming, she thrust a carefully packed bag toward him like it was a treasure chest.

The corner of Alexander’s mouth twitched.

Then his gaze snagged on the small bottle of car fragrance tucked in the cup holder—Evelyn’s handmade blend, meant to freshen the space.

Seeing Cassandra sitting exactly where Evelyn usually did sent an uncomfortable prickle down his spine.

"Get out and sit in the back," he ordered.

Cassandra blinked. "Why?!"

"The passenger seat isn’t safe."

He scrambled for an excuse. "And you’re distracting me with all that food."

"I—"

She faltered, then smirked, eyes glinting. "Is it really the food bothering you… or is it me? Are you finally admitting I affect you, Alex?"

"You’re imagining things."

He flicked her forehead. This girl’s mind was a maze of wild theories. Only she could twist a simple request into some grand romantic confession.

"Hahaha!"

Even with the light scolding, Cassandra’s mood soared. She clung to the belief that she was the real distraction—and that suited her just fine.

Grinning, she grabbed the door handle but paused before opening it.

"You won’t drive off the second I step out, right? No tricks!"

Alexander exhaled. "I won’t. Just move to the back."

"Okay!"

Only after his reassurance did she hop out and slide into the rear seat.

When he checked the rearview mirror, her face was lit with triumph. He had no idea what she found so amusing. Shaking his head, he started the engine and pulled onto the road.

The office building was nearly empty at this hour. Taking the private elevator to the top floor, Alexander planned to finish breakfast quickly and send her on her way.

Better yet, he needed to find some urgent task to occupy her—anything to keep her from clinging to him all day.

Cassandra, oblivious to his scheming, was too busy floating on cloud nine.

The fact that he’d let her tag along to work and share a meal spoke volumes.

Is he finally acknowledging me as his girlfriend?

Bringing a woman to the office was practically a public declaration. He wouldn’t do that unless she meant something to him.

Right?
