Chapter 308

"Thank you, regardless. You still saved me back there!"

Evelyn found Serena's recount of the earlier situation hilarious.

No matter what, Serena had been kind enough to help her.

Serena flashed a sweet smile.

"Don't mention it! All I ask is that you teach me how to make a scented sachet. I adored yours so much that I tried making one myself, but every attempt ended in disaster."

"Your father is a master perfumer. Aren’t there any of his fragrances you like?" Evelyn asked after a brief pause.

"There are, but perfumes aren’t the same as the sachet you gave me. I can carry it everywhere, and the scent lingers for ages. I even tuck it under my pillow at night—it helps me sleep. Did you lace it with something? I swear, I’m addicted!"

Evelyn laughed. "If there were drugs in it, your father would’ve sniffed them out instantly."

Her gaze swept the room—Harrison had already vanished.

"Stop looking around. My father was just here for appearances. He has an important meeting," Serena said, reading Evelyn’s thoughts.

"Right. The rest of us are just background decor," Evelyn agreed.

She couldn’t deny the truth in Harrison’s words.

Life was unfair, and unequal treatment was inevitable.

What had irked her was the organizer’s blatant disregard for the other guests.

If they only cared about their VIPs, why bother inviting everyone else as seat fillers?

Serena chuckled.

"I overheard everything earlier. Honestly? I admired what you did."

"How so?"

"It’s the first time I’ve seen anyone stand up to my father like that. The look on his face? Priceless!"

She burst into laughter, utterly unbothered.

Evelyn, however, found her reaction amusing.

"If you put it that way, it almost sounds like a compliment. Should I be honored to be the first person who ever pissed him off?"

"Consider this your moment of glory."

Evelyn rolled her eyes.

After a beat, she asked, "You’re not upset?"

Serena stared at her as if she’d grown a second head.

"Why would I be? You weren’t wrong. My father is a snob. His ego’s the size of Veridia, and he only bothers with people he deems worthy. He’s used to endless flattery."

"Given his status and talent, he does deserve the praise."

Evelyn knew a little about Harrison’s work.

Some of his classic creations were favorites of hers, though she’d never had the chance to meet him before.

"Enough about him. Tell me about your life these past few years! Are you a perfumer at Phoenix Labs now?" Serena asked eagerly.

Evelyn sighed.

Her life wasn’t something she could sum up easily.

Serena blinked at her reaction.

Before she could press further, a voice interrupted them.

"Serena! It’s been ages!"

Serena turned to see a vaguely familiar face.

The woman beamed.

"You’ve gotten even more stunning! I almost didn’t recognize you!"
