Chapter 270
Dominic's stomach churned at the mere thought of Vanessa and Lucien together. Every time she wasn't by his side, she was with him. The disgust was almost unbearable.
Evelyn arched a brow at Dominic's revelation. "Vanessa Blake?"
"Do I have another fiancée I don't know about?" he shot back, voice dripping with sarcasm.
Evelyn didn’t miss a beat. "Could’ve fooled me. Last I checked, you were juggling two."
Dominic fell silent, jaw clenched.
Evelyn didn’t press further. Instead, she leaned in, eyes sharp. "So you’re telling me Vanessa slept with Lucien? Right under your nose?"
Her bluntness made Dominic flush crimson. "Mother!" he snapped, mortified.
"Oh, please." She waved a hand. "If you’re already humiliated, why stop now?" Her gaze hardened. "Are you blaming me for introducing Lucien to you?"
Dominic had been furious at first, but as the initial shock faded, he knew it wasn’t her fault. No one could’ve predicted this. Besides, Lucien had helped DR Holdings survive its crisis.
"No," Dominic muttered. "I don’t blame you."
Evelyn nodded, satisfied. "At least you still have some sense. I’d be livid if you did." She exhaled sharply. "Dominic, I’ve always said that woman wasn’t right for you. She wasn’t the type to stand by you through hardship."
She leaned back, crossing her arms. "Even without Lucien, she would’ve left you for the next man who caught her eye. Be grateful you found out now—before you married her."
Evelyn wasn’t surprised by Vanessa’s betrayal. She’d disliked her from the start but kept quiet because Dominic loved her. At least now he saw her for who she really was.
"But—" Dominic hesitated, "she’s carrying my child."
Despite everything, he still cared for Vanessa. They’d been together for years. How could he just walk away?
Evelyn scoffed. "Your child? Are you sure about that? With her track record, do you really believe her?"
Dominic stiffened. He had considered the possibility, but— "It’s not possible. She was already pregnant when she met Lucien. The baby has to be mine."
Evelyn rolled her eyes. "Even if it’s not Lucien’s, how do you know it’s not someone else’s? She’s a flirt, Dominic. Who knows what she’s capable of? She might not even be pregnant!"
Her words were knives, each one cutting deeper. "And even if it is yours, do you really want a woman like her as the mother of your child? What would people say?"
She sighed, shaking her head. "If only you’d listened to me and chosen Evelyn instead, none of this would’ve happened."
Dominic’s expression darkened. "I told you not to bring her up." His voice dropped. "She didn’t even bother visiting me in the hospital. How is she any better?"
