Chapter 212

Perhaps Evelyn's taste was a bit unconventional.

"Whatever. You're hungry, so let's eat." The takeout in the bag was still steaming. Coincidentally, Sophia was starving. She carried the food to the outdoor table to share.

She brushed off the earlier question, but Evelyn couldn't let it go. Even as they sat down and picked up their utensils, she lifted her head and demanded, "Which part of my description was inaccurate?"

Sophia was at a loss for words.

"Fine, then tell me—how exactly was he awkward in the way he handled things?"

After a moment of thought, Sophia conceded that appearances were subjective. But Dominic's professionalism? Far from awkward.

"I asked him who he was and why he was here, and it took him forever to just say he was from DR Holdings. Think about it. Me. I barely arrived, and I already know everyone here. One look at him, and I knew he wasn't from the company. Forget everything else—he tried to lie about that. Isn't that awkward?"

Evelyn analyzed, "If he came for you, he should've just said so. Making up some excuse about being from the company? Ridiculous."

When she finished, she noticed Sophia's silence and worried she'd crossed a line. Hesitantly, she added, "Though... maybe it means he's honest. Bad liars usually are."

What Evelyn didn't know was that Sophia was replaying her words, imagining Dominic saying this in front of the press.

Technically, Dominic was from DR Holdings. That much was true. But lower-level employees rarely saw him. Even Vanessa had only met him a handful of times, let alone regular staff. Evelyn was new—of course she wouldn’t recognize him.

Now that Evelyn mentioned it, his behavior had been a little stiff. "And... the ugly part?" Sophia pressed after a pause. Even if tastes differed, could their perceptions really be that different?

"I—I was just being honest. Don’t be mad," Evelyn backtracked nervously. After all, Dominic was Sophia’s new boyfriend. Criticizing him while eating his food felt wrong.

"I’m not mad," Sophia assured with a shake of her head.

This was just girl talk. Sophia knew Evelyn meant no harm. She pressed because she was curious—how did others see Dominic?

Magazines and media painted him as ruthless, decisive, a force of nature. His looks? National treasure status. Critics might slam his methods or icy demeanor, but never his face.

Sophia had been utterly captivated by him. Evelyn, clearly, was another story. So she listened.

"Actually..." Evelyn tapped her fork against her lips, reconsidering. "He wasn’t bad-looking."

Sophia’s lashes fluttered. "Wasn’t bad?"

"On closer inspection, he’s decent. Just... his jaw’s a bit too square. Slimmer, and he’d be sharper. He’s tall and solid, though—good for protection."

Sophia narrowed her eyes, mentally comparing the description to Dominic’s face.

A square jaw? Solid? "Are we talking about the same person?" Suspicion crept into her voice.
