Chapter 201

"No company can survive without innovation. This is something I've been contemplating deeply." Dominic tapped his fingers rhythmically against the polished mahogany table, his sharp gaze sweeping across the room.

"We must adapt before market forces demand it of us." His voice was firm, commanding attention.

"At first glance, it may seem like our competitors have the upper hand, knowing our existing formulas. But let’s not forget—these products have been on the market for years. Even if we hadn’t disclosed them, rival companies would have reverse-engineered them by now."

Dominic leaned forward, his expression intense. "The truth is, even if our current products are selling well, their dominance won’t last. Our focus shouldn’t be on protecting outdated formulas, but on creating something revolutionary. That’s the only way to secure DR Holdings’ future."

His argument was compelling, backed by undeniable logic. The board members, initially skeptical, exchanged thoughtful glances.

"You make a valid point, Mr. Reeves," one director conceded. "But where is this new product? Our quarterly reports show no significant developments in the past six months. And let’s not forget—the last 'innovation' resulted in lawsuits and scandals. Not to mention the crisis last month?"

Another shareholder chimed in. "Exactly. Promises mean nothing without results. We need tangible proof, Mr. Reeves. Something that reassures us of DR Holdings’ stability."

Dominic’s lips curved into a confident smile. "Rest assured, Mr. Montgomery. I wouldn’t bring this up if we weren’t already making progress. We have two new products in development, both nearing completion. And I have every confidence they’ll be market disruptors."

Mr. Montgomery raised an eyebrow. "Is that so? Well, that would certainly be welcome news. Though I’ve heard rumors—wasn’t Evelyn Carter the true mastermind behind our past successes? Vanessa Blake merely took credit?"

Dominic’s expression darkened briefly before smoothing into practiced calm. "Those are baseless accusations. I admit, I was deceived by the wrong person in the past. But this time, Vanessa Blake is leading the development of these new products. Given her track record, I trust her expertise implicitly."

A flicker of warmth crossed his face at the mention of Vanessa. "In fact, I have two announcements to make. First—these new fragrances will represent DR Holdings at the annual Celestia Perfumery Competition. I have no doubt they’ll bring prestige and profit to this company."

He paused, letting the weight of his next words settle. "Second—Vanessa Blake and I are engaged. I assure you all, our personal relationship will not compromise the company’s interests. Together, we’ll ensure DR Holdings thrives."

The room buzzed with murmurs, but the tension had shifted. Dominic’s confidence was infectious.

"If that’s the case," Mr. Montgomery said, raising his glass, "then congratulations are in order. Let’s hope we have two reasons to celebrate in three months."

Dominic smirked. Three reasons, he thought. Vanessa had been right—owning their past mistakes had been the smarter play. Instead of hiding Lily’s deception, they’d confronted it head-on, earning the board’s trust.

She was his secret weapon.

Back in his office, Dominic’s eyes lingered on the framed photograph on his desk—him, Vanessa, and Evelyn, standing together. Most would assume it was a simple group photo, but he knew the truth.

His fingers brushed the glass. In that moment, captured forever, his hand had been discreetly entwined with Vanessa’s.

They’d been together even then.

Evelyn had never noticed. She never paid attention to the details.
