Chapter 190

The moment Sophia placed her hands on Evelyn’s shoulders, memories flooded back. Back at DR Holdings, she used to do this for Evelyn all the time. It had been ages since the last time.

Evelyn didn’t refuse. She turned slightly, sweeping her dark hair over one shoulder, exposing the delicate curve of her neck. Sophia’s fingers pressed into the tense muscles, working with just the right amount of pressure to ease the stiffness.

“God, I missed this,” Evelyn sighed, tilting her head back as her eyelids fluttered shut. “The past two days have been chaos. Having you here makes everything feel lighter.”

Sophia chuckled. “If that’s the case, maybe you should consider giving me a raise.”

Evelyn scoffed, shaking her head. “Who demands a salary increase on their first day? You’ll scare your new boss before she even gets used to you.”

“A good employee knows her worth,” Sophia teased, but her laughter died abruptly when her gaze snagged on something. Her hands stilled.

Evelyn frowned, sensing the shift. “What’s wrong?”

“Evelyn, you…” Sophia hesitated, her eyes locked onto a particular spot just below Evelyn’s ear.

Confused, Evelyn glanced down but saw nothing unusual. Then Sophia reached out, her fingertip lightly brushing the sensitive skin.

Realization hit Evelyn like a bucket of ice water.

She had changed into her work blouse—one with a lower neckline—and in her distraction, she’d completely forgotten about the mark Alexander had left last night.

Heat rushed to her cheeks.

Sophia’s lips curved into a knowing smirk. “Well, well. Someone’s been busy.”

Evelyn exhaled, deciding there was no point hiding it. “Yeah. That… happened.”

Sophia burst into laughter. “Oh, I definitely get it. But the real question is—who?”

Dominic was long out of the picture, and Evelyn hadn’t been linked to anyone else. Sophia had known Evelyn’s routine for years—work, home, repeat. Rarely did she even go out.

Who the hell could it be?

“Do I know him?” Sophia pressed, curiosity burning in her eyes.

Evelyn hesitated. “Technically… yes.”

Alexander Kensington wasn’t exactly an obscure figure. In Veridian City, his name carried weight. But whether Sophia truly knew him—that was another question entirely.
